Well, from my point of view, White Diamonds could get upset about it, but it isn’t really my place to take offense on her behalf.
 
I do agree that developing your own style is a good thing to do, but I think the most important thing is to understand why something works or doesn’t work and be able to build on it from there.

Yeah I agree there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s the same way tracing isn’t bad when you’re learning to draw, it helps people get the form. But when you base your entire style and everything you make around one (just one) other artist’s style, and keep doing that repeatedly to the point you’re trying to pass it off as your own instead of just taking a few things from them and incorporating them into your own style (look at all this guy’s art that isn’t comics and you’ll see what I mean) that’s different. It’s probably annoying for the copied artists who have put time and effort into developing their own styles and techniques, in that case. Especially for the people who are emulated often.

To be fair, it is also a way to learn how to draw like others do and broaden your horizons. It isn’t always bad for people to emulate others. I mean, heck, a lot of people emulate the show art.

I agree with you. But it’s easy to understand why people do it… they’re trying to emulate to capitalize on success of others stead of working on developing their own thing (and if you look at number of upvotes here, it obviously is working for them). Atryl used to deal with the same thing a lot, the artist Verulence also copies WD’s style very closely and there have been a few Rarijack Daily clones also but with different ships, like Twijack Weekly and LyraBon Daily (that also copied style). Unfortunately some people just see it as easier than developing their own style or thing, which is probably worse for them in the long run. It is annoying to see sometimes though.

Oh look a White Diamonds clone, why can’t people just focus on creating their own style instead of blatantly ripping off others? Downvoted for being a copycat.

No. This artist emulates WD’s coloring style, but the actual drawing style is totally different.
