The regret portion that she had seemingly forsaken raising her son properly or to be there for him. A portion of her own mind that Celestia could never attempt at erasing no matter how many times she could try blasting at it with the Elements of Harmony: they refuse to be turned against an ailing mother and her hurting child ever again…

>tfw IRL you want to be cute little Spike but you’re more like big older Spike.

Celestia is a monarch, she don’t got time for that. She may have assisted him at some points, but I think it’s more likely Twilight Velvet took care of him, and thus he and Twi are adoptive sisters. Even matches the role, it’s not unusual for an elder sibling to help raise a younger, and pick up an almost parental role.

And since they moved out of their parents’ place, she has been the only one left to watch out for him, so she’s kind of picked up the mothering role once she got older.

Read my answer again: I don’t think she become mother when she joined the school. She was too young back then. We agree.

But now, Twilight is not a teen, she is young adult. I know people who become parents in their early twenties (their choice) and they are doing great. He is not really a baby either, so it’s easier.

The fact he doesn’t call her Mother - again we don’t know why - doesn’t mean he did not imprint on her or that he thinks Celestia his mum. Maybe he got his flame because he was hatched by magic of powerful unicorn? Also, his relationship with Celestia is almost non existent and VERY formal.

I’m not saying Celestia was absent from him life completely or didn’t teach him anything, but being able to send letters to her seems more like something Celestia tought him for Twilight’s sake, not for his.

Also, note how they refer to each other: she says to Twi “your friend Spike” and he addresses her “Your Highness”.

Then again, all his anxieties seem to resolve around Twilight. He was crying when he was leaving her, when he thought she doesn’t love him, when he was shown vision of her abandoning him. He may not think her his Mother because they often act like roommates and best friends, but when his vulnerable it really shows who is important to him.

Besides perhaps he ended up with Twilight because he imprinted on her in the first place.

Twilight became a mother as soon as she was accepted into Princess Celestia’s school for gifted unicorns, you really think someone has time to focus on school & also look after a newborn at the same time? Sure you can go with her parents or Cadence watching Spike, but you’d have to be an all night kind of student to be titled Celestia’s most faithful student by Celestia herself, what if the baby is crying in the middle of the night as you’re preparing for a test? I have patience with a baby’s crying myself, but she’d had to some help making sure Spike in his newborn stage wasn’t distracting her, oh and I know what you’re gonna say, but Shining Armor sometimes distracts her to take a break & play. Here’s the difference:

Taking a break: Playtime.

Raising a kid as a kid: Work a kid or teen shouldn’t be dealing with.

Twilight does love Spike like a mother & takes care of him now, but then again in Winter Wrap-up, Spike obviously didn’t imprint on Twilight from the following phrase: ‘‘You’re not mommy.’’ Also, how would Spike know how to send letters to & from Celestia without someone teaching him? Not Twilight, why would Celestia give her a course on dragon magic? So I’m just saying, that maybe Celestia taught him his culinary talents and musical skill (not counting that self playing piano Yakity Yak$#!t in Party Pooped). Then when Twi became old enough, Celestia handed Spike over to her since she’s less distracted (Mostly due to being anti social & her bro busy managing the guards).

And can you tell that from the actual show? Because I can’t. It’s Twilight who is making sure he is going to sleep early, he’s not eating too much ice cream, he’s not doing anything stupid. It’s Twilight who takes him to the doctor, helps to torch the flame for him, tucks him into bed. And finally, it’s Twilight’s love and her appreciation that he is afraid to loose, not Celestia who in most cases just ignores him.

I disagree. And this is why. (Sorry if my English is not very good).

I just don’t think a mother should be less then ten years older then her child, adopted or not.
there is a reason why people say having a kid at a young age is a bad idea.

  • This argument was valid when she was a filly, but she is adult now. You can’t be forever “too young” to do something.

not to mention all the neglect and abuse Spike is put through, that is usually caused by Twilight, or Twilight is present when this Spike abuse is happening and she mostly just ignores it.

  • I don’t agree (and please don’t get angry) that Spike is “abused”. Of course not everything is fine (no, really - I know it isn’t ) and Twilight should try harder, but not being VERY good mother or even GOOD mother does not remove this title altogether.

also am I supposed to believe after Spike was hatched everypony went. “yes, let the little fillie raise the fire breathing hazard, that makes perfect sense.”

  • I don’t think so either, but again, it doesn’t really change anything. The problem is, we know nothing about their life except that he did end up living with Twilight. Maybe he was raised in a nursery until she was old enough, why not?

and the last thing I can think from the top of my head is. Spike has already said Twilight isn’t his mother. “your not mommy”

  • This is interesting one, but we don’t know the context. Maybe she told him not to call her that when they were younger? Besides, maybe that’s what he thinks, but so what?

But most importantly, is there anyone else who fulfills this role in the show? Anyone else who does all things Twilight does and more? Not really.

and in this point in time Twilight was just starting her education. from her personal lessons with princess Celestia, to her studying, when would she have even had the time to look after Spike.

Twilight might be a good friend to Spike, even a decent sister at times. but she is definitely not mother material.

and there is probably other reasons why Twilight being Spike’s mom is wrong or doesn’t make all that much sense, but I’m leaving it at that.

Twilight being Spike’s mother is just, messed up and wrong on so many levels.
when the concept of Twilight being Spike’s mother comes up, it makes my stomach turn.
