Still not done. I’m not someone like kkat who can squeeze out multi thousand word stories in as little as 8 months. It’s the reason why I never call myself an author.

Good news is I’m almost done with Applejack’s chapter!

Yeah, I imagine the A.U. Pinkie would be a bit more sadder, and not as happy/cheerful/funny as the one we all know.

And when making darker stories a lot of fanfic writers sometimes make them to “epic/Lord of the Rings”-ish, and often forget to include things like brief comic-relief parts, and such to make it feel more like MLP.

Beyond small moments, like Spike’s embarrassing outburst when he meets Nightmare Rarity for the first time

(Spike, the ancient dragon who was considered the nation’s ruler in Celestia’s place, the one who often fights the Darkened at the very forefront of the front lines, and the one whom all ponies knew they could approach with any problem for advice, was currently struck dumb at the vision of this utter beauty before him.

Those curves!

That mane!

The Gems that just makes him hunger like never before. (He was unsure if it was for the gems or… what they were on…)

“My Lord Dragon? Are you alri-?”

“I WANT YOU IN MY HOARD!!!”)
The Darkened Universe I’m building just doesn’t allow room for Pinkie shenanigans. Hell, Pinkie’s section is turning out to be almost entirely about Maud and her… colorful redecoration of their rock farm via Darkened Crimson “paint”. Trying to finish THAT awesome vision first before I remake it from Pinkie’s view.

…Though, Flutterbat does still like to come up with cute names for her pets.

Mr. Wolfenstein the wolf comes to mind.
Background Pony #7E7A
I see dash is the only one without a good alternate reality persona; Though shouldn’t she be a shadowbolt in that other one anyways?

The right’s story as I see it.

Creatures of darkness have plagued the lands of Equestria for a very long time. The power of the sun can only do so much, so the ponies have been forced to learn how to combat the threat directly, or else it would be as in the G1 ages, where they were forced into castle walls simply to survive.

Applejack is from a long line of Hunters, and as such is often on the forefront of combat. She longs to take up her father’s old regular stetson, but the black hat and bandanna are the mark of the Hunters, and so until victory or death, she wears the badges proudly.

Pinkamena was once a happy and joyfilled filly. She and her family lived and worked on a remote rock farm, producing the magically enhanced gemstones that were absolutely vital to the continuing war effort against the dark. But one day, under the very eye of the sun itself, monsters came to the farm to shut it down. Permanently. The only ones left were Pinkamena, who was miraculously unharmed, and her sister Maud, who now has to fully restrain her emotions for the safety of others as she learned in this moment that she was a true blooded Berserker. Pinkamena was never the same, and Maud has kept her distance out of fear and love for her sister.

Flutterbat was once a normal pony like many others, who loved, laughed, and played with her animal friends out under the sun, but that was over 300 years ago. One evening, when the sun had just set, her small village was set upon by a vampire cultist who either killed everyone living there or turned them into ghouls. Left the last one alive, she was so sure she was about to die when he finally captured her, but then a pony dressed in red and carrying a crossbow of unbelievable power interrupted the cultist. Killing all the ghouls, he found that the cultist was using the poor filly as a shield. A short staredown, she gave her permission, and he killed the cultist without hesitation by firing through her. With only seconds left, the red pony revealed himself to be a vampire as well, fighting for an Equestria only he remembered, and so turned her. 300 years later and living by moonlight, she keeps her thirst sated by the animals who are willing to let her feed, or by the blood of the enemies she slays.

Rainbow Dash was a fast foal. She was a faster filly. And when she was an adult, she was always going at lightning speeds. But when darkened monsters capable of flight descended upon her home of Cloudsdale, it wasn’t speed alone that turned them to ash and saved the day. When other ponies flew to safety, the stories of the Wonderbolt’s duty and honor stayed her wings. When the darkened snarled and roared, it was her faith in the sun that steeled her heart and soul. And when her weather making father was killed before her very eyes in an attempt to protect her, it was one of the very lightning storms he made that she reached for to use as a weapon in her thirst for bloody justice. The speed of her retribution, the fury of her attacks, and expert skill which she used the lightning to single hoofedly smite the tide of monsters from her home left the entire city in awe. One foal, barely out of toddler age, mistook her for his favorite Power Pony Zapp, and called her such. The city as a whole liked the image, and so Rainbow Dash took up the character’s likeness, but refused the name, for Rainbow Dash was the one her father gave her, and she refused to ever forget his sacrifice.

Nightmare Rarity was a fashionista by trade before her transformation, but she was unusual in the fact that it wasn’t dresses she concerned herself with, but functional yet fashionable armor. “The plates may be thick, and the protections unmatched, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t look good too, darling” was a popular quote of hers. But when darkened cultists, hoping to gain her unparalleled armor and use her beauty to coax a Nightmare into her body to lead their armies, she found something unbelievable in the astral plane she was forced into during their rituals. Princess Luna, whom all thought lost to them an age ago to Nightmares unparalleled, weeping into the chest of the equally forlorn Nightmare Moon, whom all believed the cause of their Night Princess’s downfall. After a long discussion, she discovered that all the two ever wanted, as the two were indeed separate entities, Nightmare Moon just providing the power, was for ponies to love the night as equally as the day. Time having smeared her wish into the dogma of eternal night it was used as today. And that stigma was perverted further by a hidden corruption within the light as well, leading to the two’s near permanent imprisonment within the Astral Plane. Now with the knowledge given, she accepted a request from the two of seeking their seal and freeing them, as well as a boon of unusual origins. A new Nightmare, in literal terms a spawn of Nightmare Moon, but in the eyes of the three, a beloved daughter Nightmare Moon, by the name of Nyx, who would work with Rarity the same way as Luna and Nightmare Moon. Rarity would be in control, while Nyx provided the power. And it was with this power that she slew the cultists ten seconds after the ritual started in the physical world, completely transforming in body, but as the rest of the world found, being completely unchanged in mind. To this day, she continues to search for a way to break the seal, while always providing the protections and generosity Equestria needed in these dark times.

Spike is an old dragon. He was an old dragon when Flutterbat was turned. He was an old dragon when Applejack’s line began their Hunter traditions. He was an old dragon when this very darkened era began. And so it was this very old age that he uses the experience gained in that time to be all that is needed of him in Equestria. A powerful but wise leader. A source of much ancient knowledge needed to combat the dark and keep up the hope of a weary nation. And to just be a pillar that the taxed and tired could lean against when strength fails them. It is him the Hunters turn to when they need more knowledge to combat the dark, and so Applejack’s Black Hat is often seen within his cave. It was he who comforted the saddened and ailing Pinkamena and Rainbow Dash when they lost their families, with the former becoming his assistant and the later a confidant when times get rougher. It is him that argued for the acceptance and protection for those touched by the dark but fight for the light, and so he and Flutterbat pass the years together. And it is his knowledge of ancient magics that Rarity sought out to break the seal. (And rumor says their meetings have had more flames about than candlelight as they research the past in hopes of finding it, but nothing has been confirmed. Everyone notes however that it’s not been denied either.) But recently, he has gained a new role that he himself did not expect, and that is that of a caretaker to a mare not of this time…

Twilight Sparkle is a normal unicorn. If you had said that around any of the other six, they would have died laughing. In fact it may even be suggested you do say it in front of Pinkamena, as it is when she laughs that the world sees a mare of unparalleled beauty due to the loss of all true cares, if only for a moment. But no, nopony could EVER say that Twilight Sparkle was normal.

It was a dark moment in time. The world was in it’s final, violent throes of death, and the darkened, for so long fighting against the light of the sun, had won and was simply in the process of removing the stragglers. And without the power of the light of the sun, the magical, joyous, and light filled moment of birth was an impossibility. So when the ancient dragon Spike found a foal not a few days old, filled with power unmatched, and a level of light the Princess of the Sun would stare in awe at, alone in the darkened woods, he just couldn’t help a bright spark of hope be reignited within his chest once again. They hid away, and as the years passed, the two became the last two light filled beings in the world. One an ancient and knowledgeable dragon, and his daughter, a pony of miracles. But in a darkened world, light is nothing more than a beacon for the monsters to descend upon. And so, after hours of fighting, the loss of an eye, and witnessing the death of her father, Twilight powered an impossible spell, and traveled back decades, centuries, millennia in time, to a time when Spike was just old, not ancient, and the sun still shone strong.

Being a mare from a darkened world, being suddenly thrust into a bright one, and just as suddenly thrust with the knowledge that her dead father was alive once more before her eyes, had caused her to faint, leaving only a pleading “Father?” behind as her mind left for the dreamscape. When she awoke and told her story, Spike was left speechless, but more than willing to care for a mare far, far out of her element.

Twilight remains unsure if she really wants this care, as it leaves her confused over this younger version of her father, but she takes the pain, the rage, and the uncertainty she is now left with to fuel her absolute desire and efforts to avoid the world from which she came.

How did they come together though?

Why are they here and not there?

That, my friends, is a tale for another time…
