I got the idea that (without knowing or thinking too hard about the writers’ intentions) you grow into your full power as well as that shinier appearance over time. She’s gradually getting stronger (turning everyone into Breezies was bigger than anything she’d done before) as well as growing into her role. It’ll be many years before she’s Tia and Lulu-class.

Agreed. I think maybe because AlicornTwi came at an awkward time (they weren’t sure if it was the last episode, maybe Hasbro was pressuring the writers) their reaction has been to keep her pretty much the same as before power-wise. Of course, she was absurdly powerful as a unicorn, but she’s not at demi-god levels like Luna and Celestia. Although maybe Celestia and Luna are special alicorns compared to Cadance and Twilight. I think the original plan was to have her grow out of her mental instabilities before ascension… Or it could be used to show how good intentions and great capabilities don’t always turn out well.
 
Not to turn this into a “power levels” debate, but I think it’s interesting that Discord is canonically more powerful than both Luna and Celestia combined. If he really wanted to, he could do a ridiculous amount of damage (and already does plenty on “accident”). He can change the species/tribe of a pony on a whim, brainwash, reverse the gravity of an entire town, transmute pretty much anything (a summer field into a giant ice rink), override Celestia and Luna’s control of the Sun/Moon (although maybe he can’t actually control the cycle himself), and finally rip space-time and banish ponies to alternate planes of reality. He also lives in his personal pocket universe and once planted some seeds that, over a thousand years later, disabled the royal sisters and the elements of harmony (which, in hindsight, made the reformation plan a good one).

I never got into the “Twilicorn will destroy the show” drama, but this is one of those times I wonder what will come of well-meaning but kinda neurotic Sparklebutt coming into this kind of power. This happens when Luna screws up. Twi really doesn’t need the ability to create eldritch abominations with her mind…
