Yeah, but it looks like it’s going to be The Fast and the Furious in space. They need a talented director, like Josh Trank or Uwe Boll, to step in and revitalize the franchise.

That last remark was not serious

Well if it’s any consolation, Star Trek Beyond doesn’t look like it’s gonna copy Wrath of Khan again…I hope…

True…though I struggle to imagine how one could make The Final Frontier a good film, given how much is wrong with it.

@BigBuggyBastage

I agree that it encapsulates the time period in which it was made, but my point was more along the lines of let’s have another fun Star Trek film. What do I mean by a “fun Star Trek film”? Let’s go down the list:

The Motion Picture: The boring esoteric one.
The Wrath of Khan: The exciting, deep, character-driven one.
The Search for Spock: The passable, in-between one (though personally, I consider it one of the better ones).
The Voyage Home: The fun, relevant-to-real-life one.
The Final Frontier: The poorly executed combination of the esoteric parts from TMP and the funny parts from TVH.
The Undiscovered Country: The well executed combination of the relevance-to-real-life of TVH plus the character-driven narrative from TWoK equals an excellent sendoff to the original cast.
Generations: The boring, poorly-executed bridge from ToS/ST1-6 to the TNG movies.
First Contact: The passable TNG remake of TWoK.
Insurrection: The boring, overlong episode one.
Nemesis: The poorly-executed TNG remake of TWoK.
(2009): The passable TNG new era remake of TWoK.
Into Darkness: The The poorly-executed TNG new era remake of TWoK.

Going by that list, Star Treks 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9 should be remade in the new era, as they aren’t aping TWoK.

@BigBuggyBastage
That’s why you update it to fit with the modern times. After all, the environmental message is still relevant today, so it’s not like it’s completely a time capsule / incredibly dated like, say, Breakin’ and Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo.

@kircher
This idea has merit too. Especially Star Trek V. I feel like that movie was onto something, but the greatly lower budget was a great hindrance. Well, that, and William Shatner’s ego run amuck didn’t help matters much either.

What about the time they remade it and it was Picard vs. the Borg Queen…or that time they remade it and it was Picard vs. a Romulan clone of himself…or that time they remade it and it was alt-universe Kirk vs. a prime-universe Romulan?

Yeah, as you can probably tell, I’m kinda sick of Star Trek movies constantly trying to re-do Wrath of Khan. Why don’t they try and re-do The Voyage Home instead? Y’know, just to mix things up.

Wrath of Khan is one of my favorite movies of all time. Nobody could top Ricardo Montalban’s performance. It did not need a remake and casting a white British man as Khan is just insulting.

Great, now I’ll be thinking of what Sweetie Belle’s voice would sound like if she were possessed by the spirit of Ricardo Montalban.

Actually, it’s Centauri Prime. Congratulations, Sweetie Belle, you get to shave your head, kill every noble that hangs out with you, and generally make every situation you get involved with a complete mess! :D
