I instantly recognized this as an asset reuse, and wondered how long before someone else would mention it.

Electrodes that are attached to a colander or a strainer.
Because the same tool that you use to drain vegetables in can be used to read all sorts of wavy lines from a machine.
 
Actually, the point is to use the colander to hold the electrodes/probes that do the monitoring. The colander itself does nothing. It just provides a “helmet” with the necessary holes for mounting the hardware already.
