I’m not saying it’s just you. I’m saying, grow thicker skin. The southerners don’t usually give two shits what other people think of them because of their accent, and I’ve lived there almost as long as I did in Minnesota. Just because people make retarded assumptions doesn’t mean you should let yourself be upset by them. Ball is in your court.
Because EVERY SINGLE PERSON I meet from outside the state thinks we ALL talk like that - that everyone from my state has the broadest possible Fargo accent. It gets on your nerves fucking quickly.
If you like it, fine, but don’t just brush me aside and say “OH IT’S JUST YOU”. That’s being just as idiotic as you accuse me.
Oh no we don’t. It depends on where you live, and how rural, as well as what group of ancestors your city was spawned from. My town was a logging town, for example, but due to the composition of loggers had no real accent compared to those in the cities. Just because metropolitan cities have no discernible accents doesn’t mean the rest of Minnesota doesn’t.
To say “Minnesotans hate Fargo” is a ridiculous statement. It’s one of the few times Minnesota and its snowy wastelands got featured in a movie, and God forbid someone with a rural German / Irish ancestry have accents vaguely reminiscent of them. Honestly, that’s just ridiculous. Most of the people from German / Irish descent have accents, and the Swedish cities even more. The hell is wrong with admitting the smaller communities littered all throughout Minnesota have accents?
and this is my favourite ponification ever.
Oh geeze, that’s different, we got a shoor mess on our hands here. For pete sake. I don’t know whoya hafta call hereabouts ta clean this up. Say, I’m getting some coffee, want to come with? Uff-da, weere going to work all night on this one, I tell ya. Then boss be saying we ain’t got time for this too, dontcha know.
((I’m Minnesotan, but sadly due to moving so much as an adult, I’ve lost any natural accent and seem to be unable to resist naturally adopting the one where I live - it’s near impossible for me to speak as I used to unless I meet another Minnesotan))
