The Equestria Girls movies are actually spin-off movies of the show while the My Little Pony movie is actually a feature length film.

Saw the MLP movie. …Wow, it sucked badly. Even the Equestria girls movies were better than the mlp movie. Not kidding.

I’ll say this the EQG movies aren’t terrible I can see why people would like them but I find the highschool setting with weird stuff occasionally happening trope has been done to death and is boring I find the teenage mannerisms that some of the characters have is annoying and I find the designs unappealing.
 
I could barely make through the first movie at all but Rainbow Rocks was pretty good despite me not finding it terribly entertaining but it had it’s moments and I liked sunset she’s still kinda bad but she’s good and she had a lot to prove since the first movie. I hope they don’t focus on her too much in the next film though since Rainbow Rocks already addressed her problems and we don’t need a pity fest.
 
So overall I personally don’t find them that great but I do like parts of them and I will still watch them I just wish they had went with a more interesting setting for the human world than a school and worked more on the designs heck even their clothes look the same and they all wear skirts they could have at least added some variety.

You’re kidding, right? The first film didn’t turn out too great which was to be expected. Even a talented writer like Meghan McCarthy would (and did) have trouble taking pony personalities and applying them to a human world. That first movie was mostly setup for the movies that come after it. Rainbow Rocks was considered a huge success considering how much of the fandom liked it.

No, EQG is an abomination that should have never seen the light of day, but did because Hasbro wanted to create a new IP with minimal effort.

I was unaware it was a press release, I thought it was some news article. But even so, the EqG movies weren’t produced as movies, they were produced as DVD/TV specials. Theatrical release was an afterthought.
