I love looking at the comments on here about LyraBon never being canon because now they got married 😊😊 (and there was also a direct reference by Pinkie on them being married in the comics canon in addition to the show explicitly showing their proposal and also the resulting newspaper blurb about their marriage/wedding)

I wasn’t aware. I was sure people thinking someone of otherwise legal age shacking up with someone way, way beyond that being pedophilia was a process of thought restricted to dumb people on the internet.

It is. Have you seen “modern family”? Have you seen the parents of Steven Universe? And is also romantic for many. Especially when Discord is just a late bloomer and not someone who was unlucky with previous marriage. So there is still additional element of him feeling love for the first time. Denying him any relationship or anything that would be okay for a young character just because of his age would seem as a definition of “ageism”. This show would be against it just like against homophobia and racism.

It’s something more than that. It also a combination of interracial and age-difference relationship. If the show/Hasbro/Meghan want to be seen as progressive cartoon(like Steven Universe) then it may actually work toward it rather than against it. People think that this pairing is toasted like Sparity due to age difference but the opinions about pedophilia and may-december relationships are very different in the public.

Well its not the same though. There’s nothing really “controversial” about the Discord/Flutters thing. I mean, the Mane6 are considered adults, so Discord being immortal isn’t really different from your overused elf/vampire/alien X human pairing. Its only those people who complain. You know, those who HAVE to complain about anything.

So much to unpack here: The Prisoner reference where he’s number 6, the Office Space vibe had me thinking of the quote “Every day is the worst day of my life.” and the Fluttercord nod there, suggesting that regardless of how miserable a future he envisions, he can’t imagine Fluttershy not being with him.

There is a difference in portraying a lesbian relationship and teasing a heterosexual relationship.  
Whitley might have also got an impression from the show that this ship tease is valid. And since DHX approved his scripts and this dialogue, along with recent Smooze episode it may encourage him to write it further in the future.
