I am a Christian, born and raised in the Bible Belt. I don’t consider this the least bit insulting or sacrilegious. Assuming the artist is some whiny emo teen crying over being stood up, or saying someone’s worthless because they’re suffering from depression, that gets really close to sacrilegious.
That and crucifixion was a somewhat common form of capital punishment in ancient times. It wasn’t just limited to you know who.
I used to be a Christian. I wouldn’t have in my wildest dreams deemed this insulting.
No, as a matter of fact, it doesn’t, considering that “crown of thorns” is almost as common an idiom as “cross to bear”.
Yes. Exactly.

Ask the artist about the meaning. I’m not Christian and I had not associated “crown of thorns” imagery with Christ in any way, but with specific kind of suffering that I am unable to interpret into words, but innately feel that it matches up with image’s emotions and message.
Reading into it too much? This is art; everything is suppose to have a purpose, so excuse me for wondering if this does.
@gasmaskangel
You’re the ones who are co-opting said “religious symbol” by reading into it too much.
Cause yeah. Putting a crown of thorns on a pony doesn’t seem at all like the sort of thing that would be viewed as insulting to Christians.
Give this guy a medal gaw damn!
So if someone’s overemotional and venting, then fuck’em, they aren’t worth it?
Considering I recognize a lot of the names posting and on the downvoters list, the number of people actively disliking this because “try hard” isn’t that great.
But sure, I guess some are so.
That’s fine, but did that justify you implying that everyone that felt the picture was humorous or “try-hard” is emotionally stunted and SJW-obsessed?
Can you not simply accept that some will not find these images inspiring, and that this in no way implies that there is something wrong with them?
And I really don’t appreciate your “2edgy” memepost, so,
You don’t really have much of a right to complain in that regard seeing as pretty much the entire theme of your posts on this and the previous image is about denigrating people who find them pretentious by calling them hypocrites or speculating about how they “just hate SJW’s” or whatnot.
I have no particular problem with you if you find meaning in this, but to me it looks like a huge mishmash of “I’m persecuted” imagery without any real heart behind it. Thing is, I really don’t appreciate you attacking my motives merely because I “don’t get it”.
you don’t fucking get it do you
You just typed a bunch of nothing.
That has nothing to do with this.
One is done for the sake of seeing more ass/tits/whatever, the other because the artist can’t or won’t go beyond making a fucking “I’m sad” banner.
So you prefer artists to be ambiguous and vague when conveying a message? That always goes so well, doesn’t it? Especially given the impressive display of comprehension we see in these comments.
