I think since the most common headcanon is that Diamond Tiara has no soul and exists only to make the CMC miserable, they were’nt silenced fast enough.

I have a feeling that yes, their parents are dead but the finale (which presumably involves time travel) will give way for AJ(directly or indirectly) to save them, and she’d be surprised when they get back in their ‘present’ time.

The only thing I can think of where the parents could be both assumed to be dead and alive at the same time is that they got petrified by a cockatrice (maybe by protecting AJ and AB after wandering into the Everfree Forest), and their statues were somehow lost.
 
My guess is it never gets brought up again.

That was my headcanon too, although admitedly you’ve had it longer.
 
Also, Diamond Tiara’s mom is a lot like my headcanon for her stepmom was, so I was close.
 
The only headcanon I really lost is Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon being stepsisters.

Well, there are two possibilities.
 
  1. He’s just trolling and we shouldn’t look too much into his comments.
     
  2. They’re actually planning to show AJ parents in the present, alive and well. Which would be IMO the fucking stupides move they could ever pull off. After five seasons of absence and several hints pointing at the very real possibility of AJ’s parents being dead, making them just show up as if nothing serious ever happened would not only make people seriously question the quality and decision making of the writing staff, it would also rob AJ of so much character depth it would verge on character assassination. I seriously hope these guys don’t do this.
