Actually, I went all out with designing a house from my head into The Sims 4 to better visualize it for writing and vectors, so that’s like top-notch insanity for references.

Anyone else use the horizontal flip test for their sketches before they move on to the lineart layer?

I’ve been wanting to do monster ponies for a while. Not a pony, but close enough to fill that internal quota to do a monster pony.

Tried a mix of simple and complicated. What to you all think; specifically about the lighting?

Well…I personally think it’s too busy. I tend to not appreciate complicated lighting setup because I don’t have any reference to it.  
I personally much prefer your other works where the lighting is simple and clear.
 
The lighting on the hands and chairs? I like. The dark and light spots are well defined. On Twilight? It’s not easy for me.
 
But that’s just my obinion.

I find that it really helps me pinpoint anything that looks off about the drawing, so I can correct it and fix it early and it won’t bug me later on.

Fellow artists, I need your advice!
 
I’m drawing one character carrying another character. The character being carried is clearly annoyed and just having none of it. How should the one character carry them?
 
For full context, one of the characters is really afraid of the water, but the other character is trying to carry her into a lake or river to help her learn how to swim.

Unicorn? Just have one levitate the other.  
Not unicorn? Have one tie the other and pull the rope.
 
Or you could have both characters already on a boat and have one push the other. You can do the balance on one leg arms oustretched trying to fly pose that is common in every cartoon.

If the main light source is the map then Twi’s front should be dark.
 
Reduce the number of strong light sources. Currently the mark, book and map 3 are too many, pick one as main and put that in the mid focus of the pic (where the map is right now so that’s the logical choice to make strongest without composition changes). Other two should be faint on comparison or nonexistant. Not only does it keep the pic feel focused but 3 interacting sources would create more complex shadows, you know what I mean

Agree. I always keep in mind the bog standard Sunlight / Moonlight setup because I’m still super beginner and can’t deal with anything complex.

Hands and feet are the most difficult parts for me.
 
On my case, the clothing is often the whole point of the drawing. Right now i already have another outfit that i want to draw (with Derpy) but i still haven’t thought up a suitable pose.

So, i’m doing another drawing, but in regards to your latest advice, i don’t know how i can make a image of ponies holding hands more dynamic, other than having them walk.
