In a world where I, me personally myself my person, can become destitute over this sort of nonsense, the line between “respecting the artist” and “kowtowing to the artist’s every request” is very blurred.
And completely regardless, my point still stands; a large number of artists would see a refusal to remove less than 10% of images by artist request as an affront to their control and expression of their own work, eventually leading to less production. “Fighting” to keep that existing ~10 could very realistically lead to losing the future ~50%, at least. Sure, we may get to keep a few thousand images more now, but many artists would feel sick of the fandom because of it, and not only want to remove the images from here, but from their own galleries and completely stop producing future content.
I’ve seen this happen, it’s been a thing I observed since early Ponibooru, that I’ve seen in other fandoms and art site and from multiple boards. The state of things here wasn’t borne from a whimsical decision I made to the apparent benefit of no one. What some may see as me bending over for artists, I do to keep the fandom as productive as possible; if that means some images are only on DA/Tumblr and not here, so be it; better than the alternative of them being only here, the source deleted, and future images that could be elsewhere simply never made at all.
