Do what you gotta do. To me, a total outsider, it seemed like y’all had fought before somewhere else.
I mean, I know the feeling of stock insults. I’m a political moderate and a hold-over from the “fuck everybody” personality of the 1990’s. So I’ve been called and accused of everything in the book from being a Gay loving libtard cuck, all the way to a Trump sucking white supremacist. shrug
The internet has high blood pressure.
I hear ya. Remember when Trump was accused of inviting “Alt-right people” to his social media summit on social media censorship? If Tim fucking Pool looks alt-right to you… Hoo boy.
My psychologist friend says all of this “Hyper-Polarization” everywhere is because Deus Ex was right. Religion and “Common Cultural Narratives” (Everyone agreeing country x is the coolest and the other footballer team’s country sucks” for example), these things people have believed in for millennia, have been replaced with artificial ones made up by advertisers, big corporations, and governments. Either you buy into these big lies and buy products and let these narratives dominate your life, or you don’t and you find some other piece of media to fill the void. The internet connects everyone, but some people want to huddle up in bubbles, “Tribes” and “Fandoms”, circlejerks, and never come out. But where religions at least tried to tell people to be good (usually) many of these fandoms are just “Neo-corporate idolatry”, circlejerks where people gush about some product.
Pokemon fans who tell other fans to “Shut the fuck up and stop complaining about the national dex” do that because they aren’t actual fans of Pokemon, and they don’t care about the quality of product they consume. They’re consumers, and they want to be seen being the “Best” ones.
Pokemon fans have put up with GameFreak’s laziness for a long time, but they’ve crossed the breaking point. So you’re mad, or you lack a breaking point and you’d literally let Mashashi Kishimoto and Mashpotato Samurai step on you thanks to all that corporate idolatry. These “idolators”(?) are the people who attack others for not liking Pokemon, and you’ll get these wannabe-best-fan types in every fandom, unfortunately.
As for politics, however… It’s getting worse because the TV news is making it worse by lying 24/7 and constantly amping up its “HATE THE OTHER GUYS! HATE THEM!!!” talk.
