Derpibooru was exceptionally quiet before ponibooru died. For comparative purposes, on 16/06/2012 (the saturday right around when ponibooru died) we saw 35 unique visitors, less than 500 pageviews. On the following Saturday, the 23rd, we saw almost 7000 unique visitors and more than 250,000 pageviews, which is a roughly 50,000% increase in raw traffic over that week alone. Things were a bit crazy.

I would assume as much. I visited here a few times, and I think I had an account before the closure of Ponibooru and pick-up by all of you, which again, thank you for that. To have that sudden fluctuation of traffic must have put a toll on everything.

Our infrastructure seriously strugged in the first few days. We knew in advance that ponibooru was closing and Eco would be directing people in our direction, so we were planning to receive the influx, but we expected to have a couple more weeks to prepare for it. He shut down earlier than expected and everyone showed up while we were still looking into options for upgrading the server to handle the coming load, not to mention the traffic influx brought ought a ton of site bugs that only showed up under heavy use. Fortunately we managed to struggle through and get things fixed up, although Clover got very little sleep while keeping it together.
 
It all worked out anyway.

Anyone else remember the great ponibooru downtime of 2012?  
This was the only thing that managed to get uploaded iirc, and we all just stared at this one image for days on end.

i do remember seeing that image twice, but i had my exams there so…

Remember when we NEVER tagged or shit on P.B., so finding all the cool old stuff from, say, Madmax, was too time-consuming to do?  
Hell, just browsing the site was too much eventually, so I only bookmarked certain tags, and nuts to all others that I missed (I still do that actually, which I’m kinda starting to regret as I constantly check “Watched Tags” to find nothing)  
Remember when pages on DB loaded new images on page automatically? No idea when that broke.  
TV shopped’ macros/meme images are forever, like gif parties SHOULD have been but aren’t.  
Speaking of comment sections, there’s a very disappointing decline in that to me. I think we’re past the large point of it being just re-uploads from PB, and the “adventure in the comments” domination, but right now, I can’t even post images past a certain time of day and expect a response, especially if they’re a day old.
 
If it should have been about DB specifically, I recall checking this site by accident in image searches twice before the transfer, and nothing more.

Ironically, a big part of that is because the site works at a decent speed and gets almost a thousand uploads a day; you’re not stuck waiting for an image to load for half a minute and our terrible attention spans take us to new images as soon as they appear.
 
 
Anyways, DB pre PB shutdown wasn’t exactly bustling with activity. We had maybe 20 regular users and the place was mostly used to transfer faves over from DA and PB. Like Carcer mentioned, we had some forewarning from Eco about PB shutting down, but what we though was “in a few weeks” turned out to be a handful of days during one of the most stressful real-life work periods of our lives. Clover is a god damn hero, and to his credit a silent and humble one.

You guys are amazingly swift with the management of the site. Downtimes rarely exceed 3 hours and keen moderation of content(anything that has to be removed get taken out in a blink eye). Not to mention non-abusive, just, and decisive with action.

Yeah, Derpi’s mod team is awesome. Very proud to be in their shadows here now. Guys work really hard to make an awesome site.

You know mods are doing something right when even my stupid ass can be tamed properly. One slap on the wrist is all it took to get me to toe the line. That’s never happened on any other art community I’ve ever been a part of. Ever. In 16 years online, and being banned from nearly a dozen different, independent communities.
 
So yes, these admins are among the best on the ’Net.

I was there, when it died. It was nearly 4 months before I decided to finally reconnect with the community.

The day Ponibooru announced it’s Fate. There were approximately 5000 images on Derpibooru.

I miss Ponibooru for nostalgic reasons. But this site works a thousand times better.

i can’t remember anything positive of PB, i suppose is because all the postive stuff moved here.
 
but seriously, why i can only remember the negative stuff of PB? the dramas, the metas, the fluffy abuse crap, the lame edits, the force memes, the troll spam, the shitstorms unrelated to the pics…

Correct me if I’m wrong but before DB, PB was the only place where you could get loads of pony art/pics without having to go to DeviantArt, /mlp/, or Ponychan.
