For the most part people do not want war, governments and leaders stir shit, but sadly it the regular people who deal with the fallout and conflict.
I once listened to a holocaust survivers interview, he was a prisioner at Auschwitz, one day he reached for a cigarette that a nazi guard discarded, he expected to be beaten but the guard allowed it, the next day the guard dropped a chocolate bar, the guard said to the prisoner “I don’t want to be here either, I didn’t sign up for this.”. Decent people get roped into something evil.

I’d have audio recorded all his unreasonable demands and allowed him to sack me, then present my evidence at a tribunal; you’d likely get a payout for unfair dismissal and/or workplace discrimination. However I’m not sure you yanks have as much employee rights/protection as we do here.
I don’t feel that I’ve learned anything positive from the jobs I’ve had. Sure, I picked up some skills, but in terms of real life wisdom, I’ve only learned negative things. They were important lessons, but the sort that hurt to learn.
That’s unfortunate.
Truck drivers have a vital role in the economy. You deserve to be compensated accordingly.
It’s not only truck drivers wages that are shit now, most blue collar wages has stagnated or nosedived, I’ve seen gas engineers, crane operators, roofers, forklift drivers jobs advertised, all with abysmal pay. What’s the point in learning a skill/trade if you’re not going to be paid accordingly?!
The thing I’m most disappointed about is that I’m unlikely to find another job that is 4 on 4 off, it was a fantastic work/life balance, sure the shifts were long but 4 days off was great.
