Cannon Busters ep 6. Another good atmospheric ep.
A rather blunt and torturous way to make Philly reexamine what he has done with his life and the power he’s been granted. I do like the idea that simply being granted power
and dead parents would
not magically motivate someone to be a hero. I supposed this is setting him up to learn responsibility or whatever, but there are worse lessons to learn. At the very least, this was another nice departure from the archetype, and it sets up an interesting conflict in the end.
This show is shaping up to be somethin’.
Dr. Stone ep 8. I’m glad the new kid has a watermelon on her head, as it’s a reprieve from this show’s “funny” faces.
Senku now has to do his new companions’ personal quests to gain allies for his kingdom. The video game elements have been the better parts of the show, as the actual narrative drama isn’t that interesting. It’s just modern-day melodrama, and neither the setting nor Senku’s cold approach add a new perspective to it. And I appreciate the show acknowledging that Senku’s mentality of “taking over” the village isn’t the most heroic.
Given ep 7. I sure am a sucker for romances that depict love as something that makes you vulnerable, not something that magically fixes all of your problems.
Uenoyama talked about his sexuality with Akihiko. Not as well executed as
Bloom into You, but it’s nice to have scenes like this. It’s refreshingly honest to have characters doubt themselves in this way, and it’s nice to have a role model there to tell them that they’re alright.
I liked Ayano admitting that it was petty of her to bring up Mafuyu’s past, and I liked that Uenoyama forgave her for it.
The flashback to Murata was not as good, felt like a lot of “tell, don’t show” and didn’t feel particularly relatable. Murata’s music was good, though.
Bold decision by Akihiko to give his kouhai a strong, direct push. I appreciate it from a storytelling perspective, because this likely means they won’t spend a lot of time spinning their wheels. But the whole band is in such a delicate place, they could easily fall apart.
