In honor of Toriyama, I picked up a “three-in-one” of the first 3 volumes of the original “Dragon Ball” at Barnes & Noble today.

Yeah we’re in a whole new era of Dragon Ball.

I think Japanese Shinto priests should consider enshrining Akira Toriyama. Like what they did with some of their…. “war heroes”. If there’s anyone more deserving, it’s this man.
The guy was monumental in his contribution to the anime world, and Japanese/international culture in general.

I won’t be surprised if the Japanese government is devising a statue or monument dedicated to him right now.

“The Boy and the Heron” is getting a theatrical rerelease March 22 along with bonus content.

Ghibli Fest 2024 has been announced. I thought for certain that they were gonna re-release Grave of The Fireflies for the 35th anniversary of its American release. I guess it’s true they must not have the license for it.

I really hope the Spice and Wolf remake is good

I finally got around to watching the first episode of the Spice and Wolf remake. It was pretty much everything I was hoping for. Great music, very well done introduction of Holo, likable protagonist in Lawrence, the world building being on point, I honestly don’t have any complaints. Maybe the OP and ED isn’t as good as the two from the original series, but if that’s my biggest complaint, then that is pretty good.

I have high hopes and so far they are being delivered.

Just a quick reminder that this particular character from “The Tale of Princess Kaguya” (which is part of Ghibli Fest 2024) shares the same English VA as Viridi from “Kid Icarus: Uprising” and Starfire from “Teen Titans” and “Teen Titans Go!”.

Rurouni Kenshin Remake.

Even without the nostalgia glasses, I can see which scene is much better directed.

The one in the 90s.

The color palette, the close ups, the still shots, the characters expressions, the 90s Kenshin was superior.

It’s crazy how night and day it looks.

90’s anime needed to be more stylized to stand out which still makes it stand out today. The original given the purple shading made it clear it was a fight in the dark and Kenshin and Saito are so skilled they can still dodge attacks.

The original has it’s own problems like drawing out fights. later with Shishio.

the close up of Kenshin’s Battousai eyes, his hair knot undone, giving him a wilder look and Saito is also drawn with nasty demonic expressions.

And then there’s the use of still shots and flashing lights.

The problem of the original is overlooked due to how high the peaks are.

When it’s good it’s GOOD!

The Remake so far has been, eh, it aight.

Oh yeah, I was wondering how you’d react to a remake of one of your favorite anime of all time.

I think Jellyfish Can’t Swim At Night is probably going to end up being the best anime of the year.

Some particularly evil shit is coming up in Delicious Dungeon and it’s gonna be tough personally to handle.

I can’t get over how phoned-in the uncensored English dub for Mobile Suit Gundam Wing is (at least it’s not the daytime version…).

Unsurprising for an Ocean dub but still…
