This was used by one of the bad guys in Spectre. Cool and intimidating looking, but not really practical when you think about it.

God, I hate trashing the 1911, but that grip looks like a brick.

I know, it looks uncomfortable. If you don’t grip it properly, you won’t push the grip safety and it won’t fire. Plus, it has to be quite heavy as well.  
Given the Villar-Perosa SMG and this, I think Italy has a thing for double-barrel firearms.

Triangular rounds? A weirdass pistol+revolver hybrid clip system? Appearance of something a James Bond villain would use? Don’t worry, the Dardick Revolver has it all covered!

It was a 1950s oddity.  
The rounds are a collectors’ items now and each round costs like thousands from what I hear.
 
The Gyrojet is another one from the same era.  

 
Instead of bullets, these guns fired tiny gas propelled rockets at their targets.

I already knew about the gyrojet. I don’t know why it got discontinued, it could have fulfilled so much potential with some further technological research. Imagine a gyrojet rifle.

They even admitted that it would have a potential for use in space.
 
But I guess the technology was too expensive to mass produce back then for use in warfare and unnecessary.

People had better conventional pistols and revolvers back then. If I’m not mistaken, police forced in the US used .38 special and .357 Magnum revolvers up until the 90s when most forces decisviely transitioned to 9mm Luger double stack pistols.

The biggest problem with the Gyrojet guns was the cartridge itself - because it was a rocket rather than a traditional bullet, it wouldn’t achieve it’s maximum velocity until well after it had left the barrel. This meant that it wouldn’t achieve it’s maximum lethality until something like 30-40 feet, something that’s not acceptable for use by a military unit, much less for use in self defense or hunting. This wasn’t helped by the fact that it was horribly inaccurate - something like a 30” MOA at 100 yards.

I like the notion of a pistol with attachments that turn it into a carbine. The idea just appeals to me.

Something like an FMG-9 chambered in .30 Carbine would be neat.

A folding rifle sound like a good project. Most likely use intermediate rifle rounds. Possibly a bullpup configuration is best.

Notes on the last one: Shoving a gun with cut outs that reveal its inner workings into the sand is definitely not a good idea especially with an intricate gun such as this.

They are RARE!  
It was developed as a response to the 1978 Munich Olympics massacre from what I heard.
 
The H&K PSG-1 was also developed around the same time for a similar reason.
