I believe machine pistols are just regular pistols with auto functionality (often with optionally attached or folded stock). SMGs are purpose-designed for auto fire and have a stock (even though it may be foldable/collapsible). They often have a front grip, handguard, or other area meant to be gripped with support hand. Usually also the magazine well is positioned forward of the grip, though not always. Their sights are usually bigger and better for precise aiming at distances above 50 meters.
I just looked at Wikipedia and it also mentions the distinction may be blurred for some guns: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine_pistol#Comparison_with_compact_submachine_guns

There is also the flash suppressor, which mainly reduces muzzle flame and can be confused with muzzle brake.

Did a bit of lookaround. In English context, โ€œsilencerโ€ and โ€œsuppressorโ€ both refer to sound-reducing muzzle device. The recoil compensator is called โ€œmuzzle brakeโ€.
But in Chinese language, โ€œsuppressorโ€ is often referred to as muzzle brake so I got confused as well.

Hey, I donโ€™t know if this question should goes here, but does anyone know if the silver thing on Anton Chigurhโ€™s Remington 1187 is a silencer or suppressor? *I am still new to guns!*

Because of the diversity of terrain, there are many places in the world where tanks and armed vehicles cannot reach, and where calvaries can still be useful, at least in patrol.
Hereโ€™s a PLA calvary lieutenant with a 95 Carbine.

To not mention that the ones supposed to use these kind of weaponry are, as far as I read; Kim Jong Unโ€™s personal guards and special forces, both of which seem really bad to have a jam in the first place.
But at least it seems decently workable. Iโ€™m not sure if the same can be said about their โ€˜Anti Tank Grenade Launcher/AT Rifleโ€™:

Rifle grenade appeared in WW1, pioneered by the Brits. Then in WW2 the Japs used it in large scale. And now Japs are also using it as an anti-tank weapon.
The concept became obsolete when RPG and M72 LAW came out. They are easier to load. And if you have to fire grenade with a rifle, there are under-barrel grenade launchers like the M203.

As in, penetrate the armor, set s fuze and explode inside
Wikipedia article I linked has an explanation: the shells measure travelled distance by counting their rotations and explode when reaching the desired distance. They donโ€™t directly sense the obstacles.
That is ingenius. And in modern warfare, the sniper may be guided by drones or radar to point at the target direction. And the rifle automatically programs the shell with information provided by radar/drones/satellite via the command center server. This particular project may not succeed bur smart firearms are now becoming a thing.

To fire through cover, you would need a much bigger gun.
how youโ€™d fire at a enemy in cover without the system accidentally picking a tree or a wall and exploding prematurely

OH

Iโ€™m so sorry my man I beg your pardon, I didnโ€™t open your page and immediately assumed you were talking about the Barrett XM109 or the XM307 Advanced Crew Served Weapon (ACSW). Iโ€™m so sorry man, I admit I was at fault, didnโ€™t open the Wikipedia link Dx
Yep, the Denel Systems would be the Neopup (cute name) PAW-20, I think, unless you mean the Denel NTW-20
Neopup PAW-20

Denel NTW-20
The Ukrainians are also developing the RGSh-30 grenade launcher

Wouldnโ€™t something like old tank shells work?
As in, penetrate the armor, set s fuze and explode inside
So instead of firing above the cover, you fire the cover so it sets the fuze off
Otherwise I wouldnโ€™t know how youโ€™d fire at a enemy in cover without the system accidentally picking a tree or a wall and exploding prematurely, instead of detecting the sandbags deep in the alleyway

And grenade has a large blast radius anyway.
The point is that you donโ€™t have to wait for the enemy to peek or otherwise become visible. The enemy canโ€™t just hide from you behind cover, they have to run away outside your range of fire.

Itโ€™s basically a more precise grenade launcher, so at a distance you can still target individual enemies or targets like trenches or windows, instead of just being able to hit an area where the enemies are.
US had a cooler idea - the XM25 - where the grenades were programmable, so they could explode after passing near an obstacle to hit enemies behind that obstacle. It had issues though and funding was cut.

@RD4590
What would justify the use of this?
Which situation would require both a Sniper Rifle and Grenade Launcher to be simultaneously needed in the same weapon?

If you do not specify a field to search over, the search engine will search for posts with a body that is similar to the query's word stems. For example, posts containing the words winged humanization, wings, and spread wings would all be found by a search for wing, but sewing would not be.
