Probably MLP’s fault back in the 80s. Culture has more influence on reality than you think. Don’t believe me? Here:
-The stereotype of German being an aggressive language comes entirely from Hitler’s speeches.
-The association between rabbits and carrots is the result of a scene in an early Bugs Bunny cartoon that was supposed to be a reference to Casablanca.
-Chernobyl and Homer Defined collectively killed off the nuclear energy industry for good.
-Super Mario World is to blame for the total extinction of the word “Tubular”, because of that goddamn Special World level.
-The modern meaning of the word “spam” comes from a Monty Python sketch about Vikings.
-South Park killed off the chance of ever getting a western adult cartoon that’s actually mature and has decent animation.
-Donkey Kong 64 and Halo killed off platformers as the dominant genre, they’re now rarely seen outside of retro throwback titles and series that have been running since the SNES or earlier.
-The failure of the latter half of Gulliver’s Travels turned satire into a joke and probably also ruined the Traveller’s Tales genre. Book 4 (the one with the talking horses) is also the origin of the term “Yahoo” meaning a hooligan.
-Star Wars and Blade Runner have defined Sci-fi for decades now. Mirror’s Edge could have, except it was a video game and so can’t be taken seriously by anyone older than James Rolfe. This is also why science fiction doesn’t have the internet, as both movies predate it (and boomers shit bricks over it)
-Frozen and Poppy Playtime have doomed America beyond recovery.
