For the most part, I’d say Muslim-majority countries should be left to conduct their own internal affairs. I don’t at all buy the “clash of civilizations” theory that Steve Bannon seems to adhere to, especially since he seems to see the clash as being between Islam and Christianity, and I have about as much love for Christianity as Islam. Although I like to think that there is such a thing as “the West” in a sense, it need not be in conflict with other parts of the world.

That may be true, but from what I can gather, Trump’s critics see the inclusion of the word “radical” as just a dog whistle meant to disguise references to Islam and Muslims in general. I can’t blame them, especially since they themselves throw around terms like “extreme”, “hardcore”, and “far right” like candy for probably the same reasons. The term “extremist” can’t be regarded as politically neutral. Whenever someone defines something as “far” or “extreme”, ask them what they would consider moderate or mainstream.
