After six additional Israeli (and Israeli-American) hostages were found dead in Gaza, mass protests are set to erupt across Israel demanding that Bibi hammer out a ceasefire. Additionally, the state’s largest labor union, Histadrut, is planning a general strike across the multiple sectors it represents.
That second bit reminds me of exactly why I support unionizing and organized labor in general, and why our overlords hate and fear it so much. An organized working class has the power to shut an entire country down for as long as they want, which I would wager is a far greater threat to an authoritarian government than mass gun ownership alone.
EDIT to add: I haven’t fully confirmed it, but I’m hearing that the hostages were killed in an IDF airstrike.

What I heard is they were shot execution style as IDF were in the area.
VERY few sources that can be trusted about what’s going on over there.

Sidenote, BLM’s twitter account recently posted that Hamas should release the hostages, and “leftists” are shitting on them because somehow that’s a bad thing to say.

Elon after Ricky Pearsall got shot.
“Unless murders are locked up, they will murder. A guy chased three X employees down Market St in SF trying to hit them with an Axe. They reported it, but no action was taken. A few months later that guy killed someone with his axe.”
An Axe wielding killer in California would be making big news. Because it’s California. And the state has a lot of gun laws already. It didn’t happen because I know California. The state is big but there are hardly any stories out in that state about an axe wielding maniac. Plus the shooter was trying to not commit murder but rob a store.

Labor unions also often are the main force against fascism. They can provide a united and disciplined left leaning force. In the 1930’s when fascism was all the rage the main factor rather it took over or not was the strength of the unions. The Nazi’s also saw unions as their main enemy and in Britain it came to all out brawls at times between fascist groups and unions.

The government has build in checks and balances and is a democracy. While on Twitter Musk word is pretty much law. The US government is not an absolute dictatorship like a corporation is.
So no, the age old trick of pretending like the US government is the same as the Soviet government is not going to work.
marinus18

@Meanlucario
??? What are you talking about?
The court is part of the US government and the US government can print dollars as much as it wants. So I don’t know what I’m supposed to imagine when you are saying this. I mean I have some ideas like mistakes during taxation? Is that what you mean?
marinus18

@Meanlucario
I mean as far as I know the reinbursement of the child tax credit went pretty smoothly despite the massive political opposition to it. Were there problems I don’t know of?
The massive money transfers of the Covid relief package were all delivered.
marinus18

@Meanlucario
Also you kind of are glancing over the main argument which is that the US government is a democracy with checks and balances. While Twitter is an absolute Musk dictatorship. That is a critical part that should not be ignored.

Time to get spooky
@marinus18
When was the last time the USA government went to trial and had to pay what the court ordered them to? I remember hearing it’s even written in our Constitution that it was intended for them to never have to pay for anything base on a court ruling. And no, I’m not comparing it to the USSR (don’t put words in my mouth), but the government owning social media platforms is far from the utopia you like to pretend it would be.
marinus18

@Meanlucario
I never said anything about “owning”. I was talking about the ABSOLUTE control Musk has and how that’s dangerous. You are putting words in my mouth here as well. There needs to be a level of regulations to make sure there is a sharing of power. Musk should not have absolute control to manipulate public opinion in whatever way he wants.
The “government” going to “trail” doesn’t really make sense since the legal system is a part of the US government. I mean they can do that with lower level jurisdictions which they do. A common thing often fought over is how much Christian fanatics are allowed to impose their religion on public schools. In Florida the public schools have to foot this will which is why they are among the worst in the country as it drains a lot of their money.
marinus18

@Meanlucario
I wonder what you mean with being ordered to court. I mean if the government makes a law the courts can not overturn that law. The supreme court can but it shouldn’t as that is the senate’s job and the power to overturn laws has mainly turned the supreme court in a vehicle for corruption.
I mean if they make a law and enact it then the courts can’t say it’s illegal. Saying that it is really is leading to bad things with the roque supreme court that is choosing their rich buddies since they aren’t dependent on votes. The US supreme court is a oligarchal body not dependent on the people’s good will and it shows.
marinus18

@Meanlucario
Between the 1950’s and the 1980’s there actually was standards on the media in regards to truth and public interests and from what I can see they seemed to have worked fairly well. It was mainly corruption that changed it as it didn’t allow news media to exagerate or to get news right away as they had to verify it before. There is always a ton of fearmongering that giving a democratic government more power will turn it dictatorial but I’m not seeing it. The US senate and president already limit the power of congress. The president also doesn’t have absolute power to overrule everyone else like a lot of CEO’s do.
marinus18

@Meanlucario
There is also the question of why a corporation would get sued for breaking free speech laws when they aren’t subject to those laws to start with. I think they ought to be. Social media sites should have regulations to ensure free speech is maintained just like the laws television used to have.
Getting rid of the TV regulations has only made propaganda even more commonplace cause it means now they mainly work on money from donors who tend to be rich capitalists.

You say that after the Supreme Court tried to give the president absolute immunity to do whatever they want is laughable. You have more check and balances taking Musk to trial and him losing than our government controlling our forms of communication and information sharing. Incompetence is bad, mixing it with malice and/or the desire for power is disastrous, especially when they have the political power backing them.

It’s because Twitter leftists can be really fucking dumb
I’ve seen disturbing high amount of them say that being Pro-Palestine also means you need to be pro HAMAS too, despite several Palestinian people saying they want to get rid of HAMAS too
(Also “love” how the replies to the BLM post are getting into dumb “No True Scotsman” arguments about how Black’s supporting HAMAS)
