Those are completely different things. HTTP and HTTPS are the protocols that enables the connection between devices on the internet. It’s how data is transferred from one machine to another. Examples of other protocols are SFTP, which is for file transfers.
HTTP just means “HyperText Transfer Protocol”. The HTTPS version is the “Secure” version. It combines the HTTP protocol with the Secure Socket Layer (mmmm … sockets) or Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol.
These protocols have nothing to do with what we are talking about in this thread.
What we are talking about is the WWW part of “www.derpibooru.org” or the “www.trixiebooru.org” addresses.
WWW is the “subdomain” that is a piece of additional information added to the beginning of a website’s domain name that can help route traffic once it reaches the destination or host server.
The subdomain is not required, unless the host requires it. We do not require it. We’ve been using it in the past to help people use the site with multiple logins or to bypass firewalls. But it’s no longer needed to do that - the countries this won’t help with have blocked the domain instead, and changing the subdomain won’t change that.
