How do I filter out certain pictures?

Is there a way to filter out content by tags? Because simply giving us the option to hide the image by clicking on that red eye is not good enough. I need to know how to keep said content from even appearing in the first place. Because if I see any more godforsaken futa or scat pics I am going to lose my fucking mind.

Create a new filter, then you will be able to set specific tags (either in filter editing or under image by hovering tag name) to be hidden.

Hover over any tag in the tagbox and you should see “Spoiler”, “Hide”, and “Watch”. Clicking on “Spoiler” or “Hide” will add the tag to your current filter’s Spoilered or Hidden tag lists.

Filters also allow you to use “complex filters”, which will act as a sort of reverse search query; ie. adding “safe, -pinkie pie” as a separate line in the Complex Hide section will hide all images rated safe, unless they have Pinkie Pie in them.

Yes, Derpibooru has a robust filtering system. To start, click “Filters” in the top-of-site nav bar (on mobile, it might just be a funnel-looking symbol).

There’s a brief intro to filters on that page. You’ll either need to “Click here to make a new filter from scratch” or “Copy and Customize” one of the default filters, and then set this new filter to be the one in active use for your account, before you can start entering your own choices.

You can hide or spoiler any particular tag either by writing it in the filter editing page, or by hovering your pointer on the tag when it’s present on an image you’re viewing, and using the drop-down to add that tag to your hide/spoiler lists.

There are two more fields of data you can use for filtering: the Complex Spoiler Filter and Complex Hide Filter. These fields work exactly like a search on the site works, and then it acts upon the results. So, for example, maybe you want to hide all pictures with OCs except by one particular artist who draws them especially artistically (just a made-up scenario to demonstrate): you’d write oc, -artist:yourfavoriteartistnamegoeshere on one line, which means it will hide all OC pics unless they also have your favorite artist’s tag as well.

Bear in mind that this “robust” filter system is reliant on people actually tagging their shit; if you genuinely want to block out a topic, you need to block EVERY topic-related tag.

The main problem from bad tagging generally comes from people so involved in a fetish that they use really specific tags that don’t (yet) imply the more general ones, and often from artists that rarely upload here and aren’t used to tagging much at all (given it’s not required on most art sites).

End result is still the same: filters are unreliable without dozens of redundant tags.

Until the AI singularity happens, this will be true. One can mitigate this by hiding images that have only been on the site for less than [choose a reasonable amount of time] on the assumption that it will give other users with more fortitude a chance to improve posts’ tagging.
