This got me surprised, I didn’t expect it. I expected a leak of this in three or four years, but I didn’t expect it right now. Maybe because I’ve been completely disconnected from the TV show for almost a year aside from the official 2017 film (which is great by the way).
I’m not sure how many people like it or how many people dislike it. Yeah, the designs are pretty different from the G4. But that’s probably what it needs to be, in my opinion. Speaking about different, I hope the writters are aware that this is an important opportunity to do something different. A different world with different characters, different stories, different style, different technology, different magic, different tools of animation, different creatures, different ways to tell or show a story…
A new generation of My Little Pony is like having a big white sheet of paper to draw on. As much as I love the G4, it has a lot of problems. Filler episodes, moments where a character is completely out of character, nonsense changes (what they made to the changelings in season 6, I don’t understand how that was green-lighted) a leak of focus on a story, a strong division between a nice idea and a bad execution, repetitive concepts (Starlight Glimmer is esentially Sunset Shimmer)… And because of that, I want the G5 to be different and learn from some of the mistakes made in G4. These characters are Twilight, Applejack, Fluttershy and Rarity, but they don’t have to be the same characters from the G4. Applejack was actually from the G1, but we associated her to the G4.
I think what makes me love these designs is that they look like a Disney concept art. And some of my favourite episodes from the G4 made me feel like watching a damn good Disney film with a pretty great story. Crusaders of the Lost Mark, Sleepless in Ponyville, Call of the Cutie, the 2017 film, A Canterlot Wedding, Rarity Takes Manehattan, Sisterhooves Social, The last roundup… I can imagine how amazing that generation would be with talented writters. And imagine these stories with this art design. And then imagine this art design with a new tool of animation, something like Toon Boom (which was used for the animation of the film instead of using Adobe Flash).
Imagine the amount of things they can do with that big white sheet of paper. That would be amazing. I’d love to see six different characters in a different world with different stories. I’m open to this. I think this is an important opportunity to do something different.
I’m not sure if these designs are real or fake, but they look amazing. I’d love to see a new version of My Little Pony with this art design. If this franchise has to live on and be exciting and refreshing, the story needs to be completely reengineered.
Every ten years or so, the 10 year olds who fell in love with a generation of My Little Pony are now having kids of their own. And when those kids get to the age where they start playing with My Little Pony toys, it’s nice for them to have their own generation of toys - in other words, to make it so they aren’t playing with the same toys their parents had.
So new toys happen.
Hasbro is a toy company. They have a toy line that has been ENORMOUSLY successful for years and years and years, through three or maybe even four generations of fans now.
The ten year olds who played with My Little Pony when it first was created are 46 years old now.
Generation 5 doesn’t seem like such a bad idea, so the next generation can have their My Little Pony.
My Little Pony is basically the American Doctor Who.

I would guess not - I mean, they’ve been doing the same job now for 8 years. If I were them I’d be happy to find a different gig.

From various voice actor podcasts, voice actors need to pay the bills, so they’re usually pretty happy with any gig they can get. They’ll audition for the new roles like all the other roles on all the other shows they do. If they land them, great!
From what I understand, they’re just happy to have paying work, because they bring their “A” game every gig they get.
