We still don’t know where Zecora’s homeland or Saddle Arabia are.

I still can’t get over how much of an asspull they’ve made in that Trixie and Starlight episode that should have finally shown us Saddle Arabia, only to cop out on the last minute by resolving the issue before arriving to said place.
It was clearly the show staff being lazy on it.

Like I’ve said numerous times in the past before about this show. There’s just too many asspulls on the lore, plot, setting, whatever in the show because of “reasons” that barely makes any sense whatsoever.
If MLP FiM is to be remade in the future as a series. They should have a story arc with steady pacing, and lores that have a consistent structure to it. Less of this episodic “lessons” crap and overdone “character development” they kept recycling back and forth in the latter part of the show’s life.
Seriously though, WHAT was there to “develop” in regards to the same fucking characters we’ve seen over and over again that have already been overdeveloped since the end of season 4? It felt like they were just stroking themselves over and over, going in circles with episode plots that went nowhere, amounted to nothing. What was there to “develop”?

It’s STUPID

I always assumed they showed us neither because you’d need to design a TON of assets, and background characters.
That’s always the catch with new locations.

Also, I disagree about the lessons. This show is about friendship lessons, it should stick with that. The problem is that the Mane 6 didn’t really have that much to learn by the end, so they had to make them regress to make certain premises work. I think FiM’s big problem is that it had all these side characters that could fill up an entire season by themselves, but utilized them sparingly. Like, Starlight’s friend group could be the focus of several episodes, the Young Six could’ve used more episodes in season 8, and only two Pillars actually had any focus. Instead, they don’t know what to do with ‘em and Non-Compete Clause happens. Maybe some higher-ups were afraid that because the Mane 6 were the main draw, then it shouldn’t stray away from the too often.

This. The series is aimed at young girls, so the unwritten law is that it needs to be made more cheaply than other series that are already made as cheaply as possible. Just look at Newborn Cuties, which was made so cheaply it didn’t even have its own credits.

Eh, I think you’re wanting something from the show it never intended to have. (There’s plenty in fanfic, at least?)

The point of the show was fun entertainment and moral parables. The characters were tools, the setting decoration and backdrop. Any “arc” was quite supplemental… though some of the characters managed to grow a bit anyway, and perhaps in a more natural way than when it’s more deliberately written even.

I think the episodic nature of the show just created this premise where things simply get thrown around all over the place without going into details on any of it. Be it characters, lore, side plots etc.

Kid shows didn’t used to be so brain dead as it is now. My generation weren’t so narrow-minded.

I’ve pretty much dropped off and lost interest with the show sometime after season 6 because they kept repeating the same shit over and over.

Most shows from the early 2000s to 2010s were episodic, because executives prefered that format. Easier to get someone into the show if they can just watch any episodes. Frankly, I think everything having to have an overarching plot now might eventually become tiring in itself. Variety is nice. Both have its merits.

And there are great kid shows currently out there, I think to call them all braindead is narrow-minded in itself.

Besides which, if we’re properly comparing apples to apples 10’s G4 and 20’s G5 are inarguably more complex than the 80’s and 90’s G1 shows, or 00’s G3.

G1 wasn’t as complex most of the time, but it had its moments. G1.5 was a high school drama, which wasn’t bad in and of itself, just that the show itself was kinda meh. G2 had no voice acting outside of a poor attempt at ripping off Creatures. And G3 just kept going downhill until Lauren Faust got involved.
