Okay now, first of all, this is mostly a rant so if you are not up for it then you still have time to stop reading and leave.
Ahem..
Seeing how far the show has gone and watching all the characters grow has really made me wonder why Rarity has had almost no character development and has slowly been reduced to be even more one dimensional comic relief character. Her job seems to be just overreacting to everything and wearing dresses.
The gift of the Maud Pie -episode again showed that Rarity is almost like an extra cahracter that follows others around. Oh hey let’s make her have many funny faces yeah. Oh! Oh! Now let’s make her randomly bounce around like a ball.
Her character development seems to be completely dependant on Sweetie Belle. Their interaction brings some more depth into Rarity as well but there hasn’t been that much of it. Not to mention that some growth has also been taken back later like when Rarity seemingly learns to appreciate Sweetie Belle more and take her feeligns in consideration as well only to later forgetting all that and telling Sweetie how she doesn’t care about her interests and then making Sweetie carrying all her stuff when they go camping too.
Some people say they find Pinkie Pie annoying and too loud and now I kinda understand them. The difference is that I feel that way towards Rarity. I don’t like her loud whining and screaming when she finds something she doesn’t like or thinks is uncouth.
For a longest time now, every time Rarity comes on screen, I don’t expect anything else to happen than showing a dress she is wearing or loudly complaining or overreacting. There is a small hope that maybe something else will happen but that glimpse of hope just keeps getting smaller.
Other ponies have done quite remerkable feats during the seasons we’ve had. Rarity’s biggest one still is escaping her kidnappers by being really loud and annoying…
Mane 6 portrays many different kinds of personalities so naturally there had to be one that is more like what we saw in older pony cartoons. A girl who liks fashion and pretty things. It’s not a complete miss but they just failed to make her interesting. Even when talking to some Rarifans, I’ve noticed many of them taking stuff from the fanom when describing Rarity. Showing that many of them too can’t settle with her canon characterization.
I had to get this stuff off my chest.
I haven’t seen any upcoming episodes synopsis and don’t know what is coming but I really do hope the next Rarity episode won’t be another dress related problem one.
