Tag "Onomatopoeia"

Maybe this is a normal english Word I not know, but would it not better understandable, if its a easy written, clear Text Name like”Sound Word” or “Written Sound”?
The actual Name sound more like the Name of a Illness.

It is an actual English word and people can look it up to learn about it if they are confused.

If it’s difficult for non-native speakers to remember, something like written sound could probably be aliased into it, but onomatopoeia should be the primary tag.

We literally have Japanese words here as tags that I still don’t understand and people in the past told me to just learn them and ‘git gud’. >:/

Should probably work on those too if I figure them out again.

Onomatopoeia already has a description and implications and I feel like the suggested aliases would overlap or get confusing with the implication of sound effects as written sound is a bit too similar.

If we already have Sound Effect, why we need a second Word for it?
I mean “Sound Effect” is more clear as “Onomatopoeia”.
The first time I saw it I had Kink Words like Sthenolagnia (Muscles), Vorarephilia (Vore) or Frotteurism (Rubbing at others) in Mind, not a Comic Soundeffect.
Most Kinks are ending on -philia, so its more Easy to know its a Kink.

Funny. In Japanese onomatopoeia is just オノマトペイア, which is literally the same word spelled in Katakana.

They do have an antonym though, “Gitaigo”, which means onomatopoeia that does not mimic an actual sound. Which is kind of like having a word than means “the color green which is not actually green”.

Aliasing ‘written sound’ or other versions of ‘written sound effect’ into onomatopoeia would be fine though. It’s basically aggregating similar meanings into the Lingua Franca.

But, as always, whatever LightningBolt thinks is best is most likely the smartest way to go.

Well there are some Languages included my own (German) who have some strange Words.
In Germany we like to glue Words together to a extreme Long Word who just mean a simple Thing.
In Languages like Chinese you can say a whole Text with just a single written Word, because the way how you say it mean different Things.^^

Because onomatopoeia is what the thing is called and it’s something I even learned in school at like age 8?

Sound effect is also not more clear as it over covers specific cases and would not necessarily come to mind for all people. And again, sound effects is already a tag that implies onomatopoeia. The singular should be aliased into THAT, and your other idea is also very similar in name.

In German it’s also called “Onomatopoesie” and I know it was part of some of my German exams when we had to interpret poems and stuff.

Ichbin deutsch, habe aber das wort noch nie wo anders mitbekommen (I’m german but I never have hear about this Word anywhere else).

Ich auch. Wie gesagt, kam auf jeden Fall in einer Deutscharbeit vor, 9. Klasse oder so…
(Me too. Like I said, definitely was part of a German exam, 9th grade or so…)
