Don’t know if that has anything to do with computers or not, but here goes:
 
XOMF is my new favorite image uploader. It doesn’t require sharing or disregard your privacy settings (unlike Imgur), and it doesn’t delete shit (unlike Cubeupload).

A big spider just crawled into one of the vents on the front of my PC. Do I need to worry about anything besides getting spooked?

Seemed to be the jumping type, and big enough to bite a person if aggravated, but we get so many different kinds of bugs by the river, so it’s hard to tell.

I think I’d have to take the whole computer apart (or at least the case) to do that at this point. I’m not too familiar with my computer’s anatomy, but it looks like the vent it crawled into leads to a heatsink beneath the fan.

So, I’ve seen some videos that recommend that current owners of the AMD RX 470 and 480 series graphics cards sell them because of a crypto-currency called Etherium is being heavily mined right now.
 
I’m pretty happy with my MSI RX 470 Gaming X card, but I also kind of want to cash in before retailers can replenish their stocks of the RX 400 and 500 series cards. Should I keep my RX 470 or sell it and get either a GTX 1060 or 1070?
 
(I’ve also got an XFX R9 270x that I don’t really use anymore, maybe I can sell that too for a slightly inflated price while the Etherium mining is going on.)

IT would be wise to sell them out and get a 1060 or 1070 if you can afford it. I personally run a pair of water cooled 1070 cards and can game at 4k in any game with details high or maxed. AMD cards are rather power hungry so you are better off going Nvidia for the wattage savings alone. MY IRL frind has a R9 290 and when the card gets maxed his system crashes and that is with an 800 watt PSU. The R9 and newer cards just eat too much wattage to really be good.
 
Sell it to Etherium miners while you can get a good price for it that allows you to afford the better Nvidia cards.

It sounds like a good idea, now that my main PC is not in major use.
 
I upgraded to the RX 470 from the 270x mainly for the power savings that the Polaris architecture of the RX 400 series offered so I can overclock my FX-8320E to 4.3 GHz without upgrading my 600 watt PSU.
 
I’m a bit worried about my FX-8320E bottlenecking the 1070, which would be a considerable upgrade from my RX 470. But I wouldn’t get a major performance boost if I got the 1060 (they perform similar to the RX 470 and 480, in case you didn’t know.) I was gonna wait until I upgraded the CPU to either Ryzen 5 or 7 or the newer Core i5s or i7s before getting a top tier GPU like a 1070 or 1080. Besides, I’m only gaming on 1080p right now since I don’t have a 1440p or 4k TV or monitor.
 
I’m gonna do more research before I do anything.

Hard choice then. If anything doing the swap now will prepare for the future changes and allow you to get in on the higher pricing while it is still hot even with the bottlenecking going on. If anything you could always settle on a 1050 ti 4GB as that will be super cheap and do 1080P no problem.

I just realised that my RAM had been running at half its native frequency for 3 years. I never enabled the XMP profile in the BIOS and it has been costing me around 10 FPS in GTA5 and Battlefield and maybe even more games. fml.  
Anyone else ever forget to do that?

I do not use XMP as I run memory in dual bank mode. As in for my LGA1151 board setup the RAM is 2 channel yet I have 4 slots. I have sticks in all 4 slots and by running in this dual bank setup you cannot use XMP. It’s fine though as the RAM is DDR4 2133 and that is plenty fast for what I do. The board is also native 2133 speed so no real need for XMP or RAM overclocking. Gotta love having 64GB in a 16x4 setup.

So I’ve decided to sell my XFX R9 270X and my MSI RX 470.
 
I’ve decided to go “green” in my main gaming machine. I’m likely going to go for the GTX 1060, 1070 or their Volta equivalents…unless someone recommends the GTX 970, 980 or 980ti. Preferably manufactured by MSI because the color scheme would go quite well with my MSI 970 Gaming motherboard.

I currently have an EVGA 970 in my Steam Box and it seems to run anytihng I throw at it in 4k no problem. Only possible issue is the 4GB VRAM. If that is enough then go for a 970, 980, or even a 980 ti if yo ucan find one cheap enough. This EVGA 970 cost me $170 slightly used.

Can anybody recommend like a good external hard drive for future game downloads…at least until my dad either switches to a better provider or I make enough to move out? At least 500 GB and inexpensive, too?

This one is used but quite cheap. shows me $31 USD shipped and is even USB 3.0 so you get max speed the disk is capable of running at.

I think I got lucky today: I managed to find a BRAND NEW MSI GTX 1060 with 6GB VRAM for $300 on eBay, and I bought it! I’M SO STOKED FOR ITS ARRIVAL! :D

Holy shit! This is the biggest graphics card I’ve ever seen!

Not sure how to explain this but the thumbnails on the New Tab page for Microsoft Edge sometimes gets borked visually. They also get unpinned randomly. They still work, but it’s still a nuisance. Any idea why they do that or a fix? I try resetting/remaking them but they still end up like that eventually.

My MSI GTX 1060 Gaming-X-Plus 6G graphics card arrived today, and I’ve got to say: I am very impressed with this card. Makes me wonder why I didn’t spend an extra $100 about a year ago when I bought my MSI RX 470 Gaming-X 4G.
 
So far: I’ve benchmarked Unigine Valley, Unigine Heaven, Grand Theft Auto V, and even Sonic Generations’ Chemical Plant Zone (a level I’ve noticed some obvious stutter on with my old AMD cards). With my usual settings (Pretty High at 1080p but not quite Maxed-out), everything ran buttery smooth with hardly any stutter whatsoever…especially with my now craptacular FX-8320E (in comparison to Ryzen 5, of course).
 
One minor complaint about the GTX 1060 I have: the colors seem slightly washed out in comparison to all my previous AMD cards. It’s a minor nitpick, though.
 
If there weren’t a shortage of GPUs because of the Ethereum mining craze going on right now, this would be a must-buy for 1080p gaming (with the RX 470, 480, 570 and 580 close by, of course.)
 
Can’t wait to see the benchmarks for the upcoming GTX 1160/2060!

I don’t think so. And I just changed the battery the other day. I also uninstalled then reinstalled the driver.
