As in “this is a mistake you will make”.
Pootis? translation: I am confused.
And you realize that Sunset said “You’ll”, right? As in you will?
OK, you know that this happened before the last two things… right?
I think part of the problem may have been that Sunset knew Celestia’s goal for her, but had no idea about the steps involved in reaching that goal, which perhaps made her feel like she was being held back.
And I think Celestia should have been able to tell at some point that Twilight was going to present her with the exact opposite problem that Sunset Shimmer did. Had she not been sent to Ponyville, it’s entirely possible that until her dying day, she would have been using whatever time she didn’t spend reading to follow Celestia around like a lost puppy.
She might be so cagey with Twilight because of what happened with Sunset, though. Celestia implied that Sunset knew about what Celestia was planning for her, which was a major factor in her going rogue.
This is a little speculative, but I would say that Celestia did exacerbate the problem by being so cagey. She pulls that stuff all the time, even now.
That’s only a knock on her leadership skills if it was feasible for anyone to bring Sunset’s potential out without her going through what she did in EQG.
No argument here. Sending Twilight through the mirror with absolutely no information about what’s on the other side, for one.
@Background Pony #95EF
How does it prove that? If anything, it proves the opposite. Sunset always had the potential, Celestia simply failed to bring it out. It was not her judgment that failed, but, ironically, her leadership skills.
What? How were Dash or Pinkie villains in that episode?
facepalm
What’s wrong with him being Captain?
Well sure. I think there are actually quite a few things that Celestia has either done poorly or blown outright.
“my worst mistake was sending my sister to the uhhh I mean ha ha isn’t that such a silly old mare’s tale no please sunset come back”
The line just seemed to fit, I guess.
That’s a good comparison.
….whatever.
_As Pinkie would say, “Secrets and lies!”
Oh what did Celestia do? <____<
Elita-1Blackarachnia: It’ll be a long time before I ever trust another alicorn. Especially you, Celestia. It’s possible. (Considering even Discord & Diamond Tiara had good in them.)
Must’ve been buried very deep beneath all that whole “destroying friendships, wanting to enslave everybody, and wage war on Equestria” schtick. (Though, it’s debatable, if that was her plan all along, or if she only decided on that when she became a “raging she-demon.”)
It’s possible the transformation also helped Sunset decide to be good, considering she realized she literally allowed herself to became a monster. That form made her bad qualities worse. (Much like how it did for human Twi’.)
Sunset didn’t “suddenly become good”. There was already good in her, which is part of the reason she initially became the personal protégé of Celestia. Additionally, Sunset’s statements after being blasted confessed that she had much to learn; the main difference was that she was now willing to do so.
You know, I wasn’t the least bit surprised when human Twilight became “Midnight Sparkle”. That transformation merely vindicated what I already knew—that Sunset’s transformation made her worse than she already was, against her normal will. When she was brought back out of that state, why WOULDN’T she be a mess? It was completely natural, all things considered. As The Twelfth Doctor Whoof mentioned, the evidence was all there.
Agreed.
Side note, Sunset Shimmer’s voice is made of Pure Sex.
I’d like to second/third the fondness for that moment.
