That’s true, but almost all mentions about their possible relation I’ve seen are made in protest to Pie/Apple shipping.

They’re not related enough for it to be potentially gross, but they’re related enough that it can be infused with the allure of forbidden love (despite nobody actually forbidding it and Pinkie even encouraging it)if a shipper so chooses.

Between the desire for unity and the nebulous and ancient connection that may or may not exist, I’m pretty sure all involved would not at all mind their family connection being made official by the two being married, regardless.

I’m pretty darn sure that if you consider someone your close cousin, like what pinkie thinks of applejack, then it’s more of a family connection than blood relation.

(Yes, I know, absurdly distant possible relation, but if people are still banging on about this then they obviously don’t care about genetic limitations of incest.)
Something like seventh cousins. By marriage. Assuming that the Pies and Apples are related in the first place, something never definitively affirmed or denied in the show. They have no more genetic material in common than any two random ponies picked up off the street.
