Not to sound smug, but maybe you need to take your own advice, and not generalize everyone/most people on an entire website over a few troublemakers. Honestly, the drama over this pic is quite mild compared to drama I’ve seen elsewhere online.
Sane fans of anything and sane haters of anything do exist, they just don’t use/visit/post publicly on the internet much and/or at all because of the drama, insanity and shittiest of shit. Sadly, some internet dwellers LOVE to complain, and LOVE to remind us constantly of how much they hate Sonic… (I remember a few weeks ago, when the same anon’ Sonic-hater was saying the same thing on several Sonic-related pics.) I don’t know what’s worse, the rabid-Sonic fans, or rabid Sonic-haters…
I’m going to go play “3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2” on my 3DS just to spite them. :P

Oh, sorry. I was talking about the kinds of lines you’d used to make sure someone’s body looks good and realistic, not the checkerboard background, though I do like that. I mostly do character art myself, so I tend to use a lot of those, and I just can’t stand seeing a lot of empty space in my drawings. It makes it look too flat, and I’m not a fan of flat looking designs.
I’m curious if those were guidelines or meant to be the usual “checkerboard” background designs commonly associated with Sonic.

Regardless, I do like the art, especially since it’s traditonal. The nose on Rainbow Dash is a little weird, and there are a few inconsistencies in her, but I can appreciate the effort that went into it. People, if not already turned off by the whole Sonic thing, would probably also be turned off by the guidelines still being there, but I like that sort of rough feel to it. I don’t know why; I just do.
I’m not sure I understand what you mean by that, but basically Sonic in recent times has become basically a “love him or hate him” character.
I either see people who love Sonic, or “loathe him with every ounce of their being,” and rarely anyone with a more “neutral” or “middle-ground” opinion on the series.
Even many fans of Sonic tend to be quite divided over what they want from the games/cartoons/comics.
I don’t really play the games myself, but it’s kinda weird. I swear his popularity (or really how people think of him, if you wanna get technical) is cyclical, like a sine wave, and the farther along the abscissa you go, the shorter the period between two crests and two troughs.
Well, maybe if people here didn’t freak out everytime they see that “blue nightmare” (or filter his image tags, as already suggested) maybe the trolls who organize these “Sonic spam nights” wouldn’t do it so much.
“Hit or miss” quality of the series aside, I think it’s become way to “trendy” to hate-on Sonic frankly.
That’s what you always say, but unfortunately, no one seems to want to do that.
It doesn’t. People that don’t like it can easily filter it out or just ignore the image like anything else they dislike.
