I think you forget before AJ, and co. Showed up. Our hero’s Spike, and Twilight were also accused of being Changelings. In one way Zecorra saved their necks. But on the huch that they wouldn’t freak out on the Bug repellent.
So I’m not fully sure about their capabilities on such matters. It seems to me more of the same ’ol, guilty until proven innocent.
No Changelings need to feed on love (or something), My guess AJ’s rotting away in some husk under Canterlot Castle now along with Celestia.
I mean you can’t really disprove that.
I like my version more.
Or it’s AJ’s actual hat (if you go with the “She’s dead, Jim” take) or one of the hundreds of hats from AJ’s closet, which she captured when they overran Sweet Apple Acres.
You know, it was canon even during ACW. Watch during her first undisguising sequence; the metal hoofcup thingies she was “wearing” as Cadance just disappear as the magic glides over them.
But she had to have made in the first place the hat burning away was just her undisguising.
True, and kinda goes hand-in-hand with my second point.
And fourth, they might as well be trapped inside cocoons.
It doesn’t shift, it burns up.
First of all, Zecora in this timeline has no reason to know/recognize Rainbow Dash, Rarity, etc., second, changelings have no incentive to kill anybody, and third, you’re watching a show called My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

I meant more along the lines that Zecora immediately recognizes that they’re changelings without even using the goo, and it kind of felt like the ponies in the forest were all that were left.
idk I got vibes that AJ, RD, and Spongelet died awhile ago and Chrysagrim just didn’t pick a good disguise.
I think because death would make the scenario much more gruesome. They seem to forget that Changelings consume love.
Where in the world is everyone getting this idea that changelings need to kill/incapacitate their victims in order to take their forms?
The changelings in the Canterlot Wedding fight scene took the Mane 6’s forms right in front of them.
