In many ways, the ‘Elves’ of Discworld are a type of Faerie.  
As are the small, winged beings called the Nac Mac Feegle (aka ‘pictsies’) who give even the rowdiest of barbarians a run for their money in terms of bad behavior around bars and such.

Yeah, thing is, if you read up on folklore, there were a ton of fairies that pretty much looked like that. And they generally weren’t even the most dangerous ones either.
