Actually… yeah. You know, American schools (which are run by the state) seem to think that their end goal is getting every student on a career path. Colleges also talk about degrees and jobs all the time. I haven’t heard any school say that their aim is to actually TEACH STUDENTS for the sake of learning. Who goes to school to learn?

Troubleshoes definitely misinterpreted his Cutie Mark wrong, he thought it was destruction and disaster with no connection to the rodeo, when it did indeed have something to do with the circus. Diamond Tiara had trouble figuring out what her Cutie Mark meant, especially since her mother was forcing her to look at it a different way than Diamond may have wanted to look at it.
 
Magical Mystery Cure was weird circumstances, magic being a weird, we do know that the ponies interpreted the Marks differently than the original pony’s Mark, with Rarity seeing Dash’s Cutie Mark differently than Dash does.
 
I may be wrong, but I’m seeing it like someone who’s done a faulty self-diagnosis.
