That good. I don’t know if Spike is 16-18 years old but he doesn’t goes to school with the CMC or been around with them. He don’t even appeared in their episodes.
 
I say that Spike’s age is very questionable.

Oh I agree. Spike definetly acts way more mature than what his appereance would suggest, even though he sometimes acts childish, but most of the Mane6 do so on a regular basis as well (Pinkie and Dash in particular). The thing however, is that since he does look like a child, the writers have to tread carefully because regardless of what his actual age is, its very hard to explain to the less…“accepting” parts of the fandom that in this particular case, outer appereance and actual age/maturity don’t necesarily match up as it does with ponies/humans.
 
Spike is a dragon, so that means the writers can do whatever the hell they want with his aging rate. Even though we know dragons live a ridiculously long time, they could make it so they still mature into adulthood at more or less the same rate as ponies (maybe a little slower since Spike is definetly over 10 and still considered a baby for dragon standards) but their aging drops to a near-halt once they become adults, thus their popular longevity.
 
But even then, and even though they could very easily do something like this…
 
Spike: “Rarity, I can’t take it any longer…please go out with me!”  
Rarity: “Oh my Spikey Wikey, you know you’re the kindest, bravest gentledragon in the world, and I absolutely adore you but…oh Spike, you’re still a little boy. It wouldn’t be appropiate for us to go out together.”  
Spike: “Wait…little boy? Rarity, I’m only 5 years younger than you guys! I’m already 16-18!”  
Rarity: ”…W-what?”  
Spike: “Yeah. Remember I was born the day you all got your cutiemarks, and you guys were even younger than the CMC back then, right? I’m not a little boy!”  
Rarity: “B-but you look…I mean…”  
Spike: “Rarity, Im a DRAGON. Our bodies develop slower than yours. Heck, as far as I know, I could still be looking like this for the next hundred or thousand years! Doesn’t mean my mind takes that long though.”  
Rarity: ”…I…I had no idea. I’ve been treating you like a child all this time and yet…Spike…I’m so sorry…”  
Spike: “Hey, don’t worry about it and besides, I kinda liked it sometimes, I guess its not that easy to tell”.  
Rarity: “Oh, Spike.”  
Spike: “So?…About that date…?”  
Rarity smiles, kisses Spike on the cheek, and the episode ends with a heart on the background. The End.
 
…since Spike still looks like a child, there’ll always be that part of the fandom/parents who wouldn’t be convinced because they can’t look past his appereance, complain, and cause trouble for the writers and the show.

Bad example. As maturing fillies, it’s very certain that it would happen sooner or later. Even Lauren Faust herself said at Equestria LA 2012 that she originally planned them to acquire CMs over the course of the show; that idea clearly rubbed onto whoever wrote that episode.

I like sparity as much as anyone (well, maybe not as much as pia), but part of the draw is the complications. My favorite interpretation is something like what On Pins and Needles does.

But Spike, in pony years, is around four years under Twilight’s age. He’s young for a dragon, but he seems to act a hell-of-a-lot more mature that a dragon his age. Remember the episode where Spike went to the volcano filled with dragons? Remember how the teen dragons turned out to be total douchebags, yet Spike was easily more mature? I’d say Spike acts like a usually calm 18 year old, so it’d be awesome if there was a Sparity date episode where Spike tells this to Rarity.

She said it wasn’t appropiate because of the age difference.  
Hence, if there’s no age difference (ie timeskip), there’s no reason why a scenario like this couldn’t happen.  
The “it will never happen” thing was a lie made up by the usual haters.

The alternative future where Rarity was raised under different circumstances and probably been taught by Nightmare Moon herself to suppress all other races since that is more or less a dictatorship government. Rarity never got a chance to even know about dragons since she was probably convinced all dragons were evil and nasty brutes. She never met Spike, so she never got a chance to see how sweet and nice dragons can be.
 
Just look at Fluttershy in the Chrysalis timeline; she was very brave and not timid in the least bit.

like what andy ramble said about the subject i think the writers are keeping it in ambiguous but she never stop being affectioned to the guy also her butlar self from nightmare timeline was the oppsite of her.

R: “Oh spike!, I dont know what to say!”

Does it matter? Interpretations aside, I redrew it simply because it’s something I forgot I had to polish for a long time. This is based on a sketch from 2013 which quality clearly doesn’t do justice.

The problem is, the writers have never make it clear if Rarity does have feelings for Spike or not.

Maybe she also has feelings that she can’t explain for spike. Maybe she’s waiting for Spike to be old enough… She’s just gotta wait for about 2-3 years, then he’ll be Old enough in pony years for it not to be weird.
