I can think of times in the show where they made fun of a spell like this by having her have it, and having it turn out to be completely useless.
I’m saying, investigating a crime scene is a very complicated and time consuming affair, and if this spell could be used for that, it could both expedite both discovery and delivery of justice.
Because “all crimes forever” involve the theft of body parts…
Hello!
It wasn’t so bad during S1; back then half the time Twilight’s spells would explicitly fail or screw up (like that time she tried to use a fix it spell against the random stuff happening at the start of return of harmony)
For one thing, it makes her friends seem utterly worthless without her, since they clearly can’t do even a fraction of what she can do. For another, the writers will nerf her only when it’s convenient for them, such as how she was useless against the Smooze in Make New Friends but Keep Discord. She barely seemed to put any effort into getting it under control, and that was likely only because of how much more convenient it was for the plot that she couldn’t stop it.
In any case, this particular spell clearly has absolutely nothing to do with trauma, despite its name. This is quite literally a ridiculous plot device to allow Twilight to know details that she wouldn’t know otherwise. I can think of several instances in the show where her having a spell like this would have cleared things up much quicker then it actually was. Once more, she’s proved just how invaluable she is to this cast, and likely how expendable her friends are at the same time.
Oh, and also, Twilight has clearly just become the greatest investigator in all of Equestria. I sincerely doubt anyone could get away with murder now (assuming murder actually happens there).
To be fair, twilight is a universal caster, and those are very rare. It’s likely that she learned many of the spells from Celestia’s school and was able to perform them, while the rest of her class was able to cast only a fraction of what they learned as theory.
That was a damn impressive feat of mental gymnastics to make this about Spike. Bravo.
If only she didn’t. The writers would probably have to come up with a variety of magical properties to associate with Spike’s fire breath, thus giving the cast a challenge to work through, and giving Spike a f’king reason to be there.
To be fair, Twilight knowing an obscure, absurdly specialized spell is entirely in character.
I see what you did there.
Wind Rider didn’t cast any spells on the note to Spitfire, so this locator-spell would have been useless.
This is why Twilight doesn’t get as many eps these days.
This is exactly why people say unicorns (and specifically twilight, starlight and sunset) are OP as hell.
The writers keep introducing spells that are basically “Does EXACTLY what you need to do at this moment” when there’s no reason for such specific spells to exist except to let a unicorn pretty much negate a problem :/
No obviously their Equestrian Citizens so Twilight can’t just stop them with her uber magic
Where would the mane six be without Twilight’s magic, now giving her crucial plot details that she has absolutely no right to know?
I suppose there’s absolutely no reason whatsoever why Twilight couldn’t just teleport over to them, zap them all unconscious, return with Rainbow’s wings and be done with it. Only reason this wouldn’t happen is because they still need a plot for the remainder of the issue.
