The whole point of my scenario about Sweetiebelle developing a crush on Spike on her own volition was so it has nothing to do with Rarity, who isn’t a requisite for someone to love Spikebelle.
 
Maybe after Spike inadvertently ends up looking cool while trying to save her and the CMC, or maybe after saying something meaningful to her when she’s feeling depressed which shows her his real self or something like that. Spike of course doesn’t notice this but it still causes them to start getting closer. And after eventually going through events that end up with his realization that Rarity only sees him as a friend (character development), he eventually moves on from her but remains depressed. Sweetie then notices this and tries to cheer him up, opening her heart to him, and Spike realizes that sometimes the perfect girl was there all along.
 
They could even throw in something about how he realizes sometimes a crush makes you see a person too “perfect”, and that he and Rarity really didn’t click in some aspects, while leaving the door open for him to realize that Sweetie, being different from her sister, actually gets him more. There’s tons of opportunity for lessons along with the adorableness this pairing entails.

The problem that some people have with SpikeBelle is that there is a tendency to treat Sweetie Belle as a mini-Rarity. Part of Sweetie Belle’s character arc in the show is her wanting to get out of her sister’s shadow and to say that the only reason SpikeBelle would happen is because she’s a younger Rarity would reverse all that, not to mention making Spike look like a scumbag for only going after Rarity for her looks alone. My hope is that the show has an epilogue where an older Spike and Rarity get together years after she show ends, but that’s just me.

Not to big on the pairing, (or ‘shipping in general) but that is kind’a a cute idea. Honestly, as much as some fans want Spike to get with Rarity, they keep forgetting the detail, that she’s too old for him, and we’re not even sure if he’ll age normally without the greed influence. And to be fair, Sweetie is closer to his age, (probably) and does look a li’l like her sis’.

It’d be really awesome if Sweetiebelle developed a crush on Spike, of which Spike himself remains obvlious, and then Rarity eventually notices this and starts trying to pair them together. This becomes the new running gag which later on ends with Spike getting over his feelings for Rarity, noticing Sweetie and giving it a chance
