Some ask for a partial payment up front or halfway through (especially if they have a hefty price tag for their work) and some (like me) don’t ask for money until the job’s done so that they bear no commitment or responsibility for getting the work done. If I try to draw it and its shit or annoying I can just be like “nah man, turns out I can’t do that, sorry.” and be done with it. (That and I ask for absolute chump change for my work, so even if someone welches out on me I’m only out around $5.)

The actual conditions under which different artists do commissions varies, but the basic universal gist is that it’s a trade like any where a customer exchanges money for customized art of their choosing.
 
You contact the artist (if he/she is open), and the two of you discuss what you’d want your drawing to be (details, characters, theme, etc), the artist gives you a price estimate and you (usually in most cases) pay the sum up front.  
From there there may be a waiting period as the artist produces the art according to your specifications (and depending on that specific artists conditions may be shown a sketch/progress of how it goes for feedback etc), until the piece is completed and posted, and business is concluded.
 
Artists generally have some form of Commission Sheet where they more or less explain their conditions/terms/commissioning process, but as our kind of practice isn’t strictly speaking “professional” there is no universal standardized method, meaning that some people are less through and organized about it than others (which might make them seem unreliable at times), while others are.
 
The bottom line of commissioning, at least according to how I feel about it, is less about just throwing money into the sink to support some stranger, and more about getting a specific kind of drawing that you want from an artist with a style that you enjoy and feel is worthwhile.

The difference is that the primary content is specifically either safe for work content, or explicit content, due to the artists own interest and customer base.
 
Some artists are “purists” and ONLY do SFW content, others do a sort of equal mix of both, while others still deal primarily with NSFW content with SFW being more of a secondary priority.
 
I just happen to enjoy drawing porn more than I do SFW art, and virtually everyone would rather commission porn than safe art from me, especially due to the way I specifically set my business and content up.
 
This isn’t some unfortunate evil where I’m a victim who’s been forced to draw porn all along, it’s a choice I myself made when I started drawing pony roughly 3 years ago, so there wont be a “someone to speak against the crowd”/revolution in that sense.
 
The only “change” you can do, is if you yourself commission me to draw SFW of NoLegs.  
If you would rather not however, then you’ll just have to sit tight like everyone else for more content of that sort, and simply block explicit content of her if it is not to your liking/interest.

the best way to improve a ratio is to change it yourself, Replica makes this stuff because they enjoy it. If you like sfw stuff with nolegs get some ideas together and pitch/commission them! People clearly like her for more than just porn~

It’s not that he(?) makes porn that bothers me, but that a character like Nolegs is used in porn 80% of the time, and things are unlikely to change since that’s what people expect from Replica. It won’t change unless the artist decides to changes things themselves, or someone speaks against the crowd.

To be fair, there are many people who will like things too much, myself included, so I understand. I would still like it if it was more than 20% of your images of her that were safer than ‘questionable.’ Yes, I did the math, and out of 912, only 46 of them weren’t questionable or explicit. Still, the cute stuff is still adorable, even if some is suggestive.

Guess you’d be happy to know that basically none of the NSFW content featuring NoLegs is “canon”, and that she is actually a pretty sweet mare.
 
Eventually when there is time and will there’ll be more SFW content of various sort with her, she was never explicitly intended to be drawn in porn this much, but peeps seemed to like her a bit too much so.
