Strongly disagree. Owl’s Well that Ends Well I could almost enjoy the first go around, but it just becomes worse and worse the more you think about what’s going on. The Philomena episode goes in that category as well, yeah. And, I sadly suspect, plenty of others when you’re no longer wearing rose-tinted goggles.

I mean, you can notice the good things about the episodes the second go around too, sure, but…

I shudder to think what Mare-do-Well would look like on second viewing. Most people only remember the horrendous ending, but it’s the entire episode that’s the problem. More views, more problems.

I never watch an episode or EqG movie only once. Even the least liked episodes in the fandom have merit on the second viewing. The only one I’ve found worse on the second go was the one with Fluttershy and Philomena.

… I guess I should have been clearer in my comment, but my intent was to point out that bronies have been claiming that the show is ruined and the fandom is dying at least since the time when Lauren Faust announced she was leaving, not that I believe such claims.

Filters are pretty dang helpful in hiding unwanted subject matter and utter dreck.

Since studios required credentials to hire people. And yes, by claiming that fan work is universally better than the show, you are implicitly claiming that inexperienced amateurs are universally better than professionals.

@Ihhh
True, I haven’t. I did watch some Family Guy, but bringing that up seems about as fair as comparing a shoplifting teenager to the Holocaust. Also, that would imply Family Guy had had something which could be ruined in the first place.

@Ihhh
claiming inexperienced fans are better storytellers than professional writers with tons of training and experience is very pretentious.

Good job I’m not claiming that then. That’s a bit of a circular argument, don’t you think?

…wait, wait, wait, since when do MLP writers have tons of training and experience?

You have obviously never watched spongebob, because even the worst episodes of MLP don’t come close to the worst episodes of spongebob, or even worse, family guy. And claiming inexperienced fans are better storytellers than professional writers with tons of training and experience is very pretentious.

No, you know what, I’m in a unique position to refute that with actual research on the subject that I’ve personally done, so here you go. Enjoy your filters. I’m not judging.

As for your question, I’m not sure why you’d ask again. Was it unclear? The show is good some of the time, so I’ll watch it some of the time, but I like fanwork way better. Like, of course a lot of fanart/fanfics are garbage, yet a lot of it are utter masterpieces. You just need to know how to pick your circles. Sometimes that means repressing a memory of mental abuse left in the wake of a horrible episode of the show.

@Ihhh
I didn’t take the time to count bad episodes. That number sounds depressing.

@Ihhh
If you don’t think this show is good most of the time, why do you continue to watch it?

It’s good some of the time. Overall I like the fanworks better, which often provide a better rendition of the episodes.
