Ponies are people, and we’re naturally interested in what people do and experience in life. Relationships are an important aspect of life: exploring the dynamics of them - even in a fantasy world - is something that fascinates us, and in the case of ponies, makes them more real.
Depends on the person. For me it’s seeing my favorite characters achieve happiness I can’t have.

I actually haven’t considered Luna before but this sort of let’s teach Luna about the modern world and relationships would have worked and the fans’d have wanted it, too bad.
