She was a supporting character in Starlight’s story in the premiere, and was kinda just there to watch in a Spike story after not appearing in the two episodes before that at all.

Twilight is the central character, bestowed with more and more important roles by the writers. The producers’ expectations for her (and by extension, Hasbro’s) means she continues to be written without enduring blemishes that have made the rest of the Mane 6 interesting.
 
Frankly, the way she’s been presented the past couple of seasons has made me hate her even more myself. I can’t be the only one that’s seeing more of her as a thinly-veiled representation of Hasbro’s strategy to sell low-quality princess toys for little girl, with the glittery butterfly wings and cheap translucent plastic castles and accessories; ditto with the other “newer” princesses. I just haven’t seen this problem cropping up with the rest of the Mane 6 because they remained largely down to earth, even retaining their old homes while Twilight had her tree library replaced with a tacky monstrosity of a crystal castle that evokes the even gaudier Crystal Empire.
 
In a way I can understand Sundown’s preference in opposition to Twilight. She’s just too perfect now.

i mean i cant blame him,but the reasoning is stupid,but he really really likes drawing applejack for some reason…seriously im tripping on sundown applejack here.

According to tags, Sunny has drawn Twilight 45 times, at least that’s here. Of course, a few are edits of the same drawing (or, like this, a team shot that is later sliced up. The image this is cropped from was indeed about a year ago…)
 
Even some without Sunset replacing Twilight have the whole Mane Six minus her, like she just didn’t exist. I guess Sunset’s arrival lets Sundown make the Mane Five a Mane Six again, and it’s the complete team in one world.
 
It does seem a bit petty, leaving Twilight out of all those mane six drawings, but of course quality work takes time and who can blame anyone for not spending hours drawing someone they hate and making the resulting image one they won’t want to look at? Hard, tedious work they get no satisfaction out of, taking up time that could be spent drawing characters they do like, or… doing pretty much anything they hate less.
 
It’s a shame we don’t see more of Starbutt from Sunny, but it makes sense. And there are many good artists who draw big butts and do like Twilight.
