That it does, That it does.
right, she hoped beyond hope
the show must go on, right?
More like HOPED. The name of the episode DOES mirror “no second chances”, and this doesn’t just go for forgiving people.
Or she really believed that Starlight would be there for her
Remember, the IDW comics are canon until they conflict with the show, which means the show’s version of the subject goes.
In the episode, trixie never has been shown to teleport and the entire reason she never did the Manticore cannon mouth dive was because she couldn’t figure out how to not really be eaten. Starlight suggested she perform teleportation as soon as the Manticore closes it’s mouth.
When trixie believed Starlight had abandoned her due to twilight not keeping her nose out of their business, trixie continued the trick without Starlight there. She never DID teleport and the only reason she ended up in the box was because Starlight helped her at the 11th hour. Considering trixie was rather “messed up” after starlight saved her, she DIDN’T intend to escape.
So in the end, regardless of “can trixie teleport?”, the fact is she DIDN’T.
This is Trixie we’re talking about. She probably added the smoke effect for dramatic flair.
Wait, since when does teleportation leave behind smoke?
Teleportation isn’t the only way to “vanish”. She could have used misdirection and smoke bombs for that trick. Stage magic is her specialty after all.
“Trixie CAN’T perform teleportation.”
Again:
Edited
Trixie CAN’T perform teleportation. Starlight helping her was the only reason she settled on doing that act since trixie hadn’t figured out hot to do it and NOT actually get eaten. That’s why this went right into grimdark implications with everyone viewing because trixie did this with no plan to escape, and judging from how utterly soul crushed she was, she didn’t intend to escape anyway.
Prehaps it’s not possible to teleport yourself out of something’s stomach? So you need somepony on the outside to help? Certanily makes a bunch of vore comics much more plausible.
||Sounds like she saw “Birdman” one too many times.

Edited because: fixed mistake
Presumably that comic was made before it was made clear that very few unicorns can teleport (and given her magical abilities are not that high it is clear Trixie can’t). Even Starlight has only been seen teleporting other things, never herself (though presumably she should be able to learn how to teleport herself).
The point isn’t to teleport out of a Manticore’s mouth. The point is to convince the audience beyond a shadow of a doubt that you did just get eaten by a Manticore. Because that’s what stage magic is really all about.
Trixie just naturally wants to take it a step further and actually get eaten by a manticore and escape just to prove how awesome she is.
In front of a live audience, who apparently didn’t notice that Trixie’s whole “I really blew it this time, may as well end it now” intro was her announcing her intentions.
Ponies can be damn scary sometimes.
A trick that Trixie had no idea how it was pulled off. And since she appointed a teleporter to help her, she still doesn’t know.
Wait a minute. In the comics, Trixie has used teleportation in her act before. Why does she need Starlight to help her? Granted, we’d all like to pretend the comics aren’t a thing, but that was from back when they were good.
Here’s proof.
