It was, either OP forgot to reverse image search or they’re the kind of person who just doesn’t bother with it at all.
@PMD
@Daneasaur
At lest that is my guess.
No, I really mean 2.
don’tcha mean
1 10
2 50
1 2
2 50
No, but they are held horizontally parallel as she moves them off screen, meaning they can be rotated for said above image.
It’s not. The entire time that Trixie’s facial expression matches the 3rd frame, the fork and knife are crossed or otherwise overlapping each other. They are at no point both hanging in the air vertically side by side.
it’s actually there for exactly ONE frame and it’s really hard to catch.
except the third one isn’t
Like seriously, holy shit.
@LuminoZero
That’s not necessarily a bad thing.
It’s literally just: 1 object, 2 objects, 2 objects, 2 objects (one lying down)
That’s it. Yes, it’s stupid.
Edited
That just explains where it started, not how the placement of cutlery somehow is a reference.
I did research too, and found no sufficient answer.
Did you see the link supplied by @CogWeaver?
You’re ahead of me. I did the research and I still don’t understand how it makes sense.

Loss.jpg is a transcended meme.
It was about a tim buckly comic that was trying to come off and make a dramatic moment, but no one could take it remotely seriously because of the comic style and the poorly played out way it came off. Everyone, even fans, saw it as a joke, but it lacks taste to become anything more than a subtle internet meme.
There were a few people who stood up in outrage over the people who were making light of the comic strip.
The result? loss in EVERYTHING.
The fact that it can be boiled down to two lines in 4 panels is absurd but also showcases how lacking the original was.
TL:DR: your reaction is why it still exists.
