If he were a pony it would be completely unacceptable. But since he’s a different species, it’s acceptable to take them as slaves.
And in his own room, to boot!
Dude, whatever floats your boat. Sounds like a pet, huh? Please, what do parents do with children, allow them to run amok? They love and care for them, and expect them to learn how to care for themselves and do chores at their instruction. I affectionately call parenting “Stockholm Syndrome.” As for the different species, well they’re both intelligent, and it’s not like Twilight legitimately considers him a pet. Have you seen how Applejack treats intelligent cows on her farm?
It doesn’t look like one, though. I’ve never seen a cradle with a notch like that to get in and out. Since the point of a cradle is to prevent the baby from falling out.
Or maybe you guys can think of the new bed like a cradle, you know, for babies (physically, anyway) like Spike.
Most dog beds have that little ‘notch’ in them like Spike’s old basket and new bed do. The round shape, too.
Even if you don’t think of Spike as a pet, I’m confident they at least based his bed on pet beds.
Well my dog just sleeps on the carpet, so I wouldn’t know. I like to think that it doesn’t look like a regular bed because he wanted it to resemble his old, destroyed basket. Regardless, he does sleep in a real bed.
They both really do look like dog beds, though.
According to the first episode of Season 5, that is in fact a bed, because Spike took Twilight bed shopping to get her away from the castle for a while. It’s just a smaller bed, since he’s still a kid.

She calls him “#1 assistant,” not #1 pet. Also Owylicious is her real pet. But that’s what I think. If you want to say he’s her pet, then I won’t flame your headcanon. But don’t expect me to accept it as canon, or anyone else.
He’s a different species that she raises and takes care of in exchange for affection and has trained to do some tasks for her. Sounds like a pet to me.
Probably because it’s not true. Same thing with putting Derpy in an episode and someone calling it pandering.
