@Bry7x7x7
There’s also the “apprentice” remark, the tie, and possibly a few other things. Not exactly “subtle.”
They’re coming out with a “Filthy Rich running against Mayor Mare in an election” comic story soon. I think we can all guess how that’s going to go. (Especially, given the “status-quo” nature of the comics/show.)
I’m not seeing the Trump comparison.(granted I never saw the comic) Nothing about walls, making something great again, or universities. I just don’t get it.
Where did the name donaldjack come up I mean did you all start drawing comparisons because I left that name on a diferent picture a while ago and was it picked up there
@Background Pony Number 17
You’d be surprised, he does have some fans. Yeah, as I said I’m not a huge fan of Trump either, (or the other canidates) but MLP seems like an odd place for political strawmanning.
There was some debate if that one pony (fanon nicknamed “Inkwell” or “Raven”) from the S2 ep’ “Luna Eclipsed” was supposed to be a political parody of Sarah Palin, (but let’s not debate about her) and a subtle political joke/shot, considering some thought she looked like her, and her Halloween/Nightmare Night costume was a devil. Though, even if that was intentional, at least that was more subtle, wasn’t overdone/in your face constantly, and at least she had a cute design.
Though, compared to this comic issue, the pages shown here come painfully close to strawmanning, or being kinda preachy. Which is mainly why I take issue with it. I mean I can take a political joke, or subtle humor for the older fans to catch, but it feels odd being in a pony comic.
Also, let’s not forget how upset fans got the last few times the comic writers got too “preachy.” (Like the controversial environmental story arc. Which many found too anvilicious. The anti-corporate message was also a bit ironic, considering MLP is a cash-cow franchise.)
@Beau Skunky
So is anyone going to complain about this being one-sided? Granted, Trump’s pretty low-hanging fruit when it comes to political characturing, so I’m willing to give them a pass here. Still, it’s kind of annoying to see political bias in a comic meant for little kids. Zahler should know better.
@Background Pony #53F5
I don’t mind a few subtle things for older fans, but I agree. Plus honestly, they almost always make fun of one side, and not the other, so the entertainment media always seems rather one-sided to me. Though, I imagine there’d be even more drama if they made fun of the Left, or something somehow. (Heck, remember when the Tumblr folk got mad over the Season 5 opener?)
@Shining92
While I’m not to big on Trump, (OR Hilary, OR Bernie) I too hope that they don’t try to make the series get too political. Besides, it’d be hard to take politics seriously if they’re coming from cute li’l ponies.
@Background Pony #A778
When you said that Trump is a caricature of malevolent greed solely focused on squeezing money out of the common populace, did you have any examples in mind?
I’m not sure why everyone compares her to Donald Trump in this comic. I mean really, she speaks in coherent sentences, she hasn’t advocated anything that would be considered criminal even in a time of war, and she actually used to be a genuinely good and likable character. Clearly they are complete opposites.
@Shining92 I prefer to think the writers just knew they needed a ridiculous caricature of malevolent greed solely focused on how much money they can squeeze out of the common populace, and just decided to use one of the only human beings in existence who has ever been pretty much verifiable as that (and only that) as inspiration.
Literally nothing is sacred with these liberal story writers. Everything is just one big venue for their political dump and they aren’t afraid of turning readers off. Makes me hope for a Trump presidentsy more so they can trigger themselves out of work and leave people who know not to mix the toxicy of American polotics into a fucking series about magic and friendship.
Yeah… I wish we could use the elements of harmony to make ISIS not evil… but unfortunately the only cure is for them is a bullet to the brain. Reality sucks… that doesn’t mean MLP should too.
@Background Pony #F67A
Admittedly I probably would on the Clinton or Tumblrite-types, but not really for Anita. I would have to wonder how many people who actually read comics would know who Anita is (she’s hardly relevant anymore, anyways).
@D50
I think the Serpent Supreme one is supposed to be an allegory for Trump, and so far, most of the anti-Trump crowd has been incredibly hamfisted, which is why most people aren’t really liking it. Some people also just don’t like the fact that the writers seem to be using the comics as a soapbox for their political views.
@Nattes Novgrel
I can kinda see that for the second one, but I’ve seen MUCH worse from Lady Thor. The first one I literally don’t see where the problem lies. It seems like fairly typical comic book humor to me.
@Nattes Novgrel
As I understand it, Angela, Queen of Hel (the second one), is already intentionally satirical and 4th-wall-breaking like Deadpool.
Of course when something gets taken out of context and posted to twitter/tumblr/4chan it becomes dead-straight 100% serious socio-political commentary.

Oh, I see the wall thing, but nothing more than that.
subtlety is a noun: the quality of being subtle, e.g. this comic has no subtlety
subtly is a adverb. Someone should subtly tell IDW to get their noses out of contemporary politics.

That is a yuuuuuuge stretch.
EDIT: At least going purely by that panel. It seems it’s more obvious in the rest of the comic.

I’m guessing you’d view them much more favorably if they were mocking Tumblrites or Hilary Clinton or Anita Sarkeesian.
The one with the Supreme Serpent.
Which one are you talking about as the first, because I’m getting confused here?
I can kinda see that for the second one, but I’ve seen MUCH worse from Lady Thor. The first one I literally don’t see where the problem lies. It seems like fairly typical comic book humor to me.
Both are still incredibly hamfisted, regardless.

You don’t it was hamfisted or really stupid to put in in the first place?
Those first two were hilarious. It’s absurd the things people get bothered by these days.
MAGA!
