I do like the detail of Sunset not having a pony self. She is her pony self.
That’s something that interests me.
if the sunset we see in the movies is the pony sunset.
where is the human sunset?
It’s been mentioned by show/movie staff that she might not have a human counterpart.
Personally, I see that as them saying “Sunset’s counterpart may or may not be dead, but probably is” without really saying it.
They specifically said their idea was that she was unique in not having a counterpart.
That sounds rather contrived… and, honestly, pretty dumb.
If just about everypony has an EQG counterpart, and the Sunset we know and love was originally a pony, then it wouldn’t make any sense for her to be the only one without a counterpart, unless the other Sunset had simply passed away.
Hey, I’m just the messenger. It’s what they say on the DVD commentary track. They said at one time they were planning on going into more depth and actually show her almost encountering her counterpart, but then they realized it would take time away from the rest of the movie and felt it wasn’t that important, so they came up with the idea that she was unique in that regard and didn’t actually have one.

Well, I don’t really care whether or not she ever encounters her counterpart; it’s mainly them saying that she just flat-out does not have one that I take umbrage with.
