She was still Nightmare Moon when she was banished, though.
 
Which, if you think about it, is worse. “Banished and then locked up in the place you were banished to”. Luna was a prisoner in her own body, powerless to do anything as Nightmare Moon raged and screamed in her lunar prison.
 
And you can bet as Nightmare Moon’s sanity faded away, so did Luna’s. Clowndicks knows what I’m talking about.
