Here’s my little rant:
Why do people (artists) draw sketches and then abandon them. Srsly, this is nuts! It’s like they’re screaming “Please finish this drawing - I’m too lazy”. If you’re an artist yourself DON’T upload an art that is not finished, UNLESS you will finish it soon.
Anyways, the sketch was drawn in 2014 by Khuzang, it’s really amazing, I adore his art, but he didn’t finish this, so I couldn’t help myself but finish it for him.
You’d better change the description if you’ve changed your stance on the topic.
Keep the old text there, but write “EDIT” above and your new thoughts,
so new people know what all the comments are about.
Calm down buddy.
So you motivate artists by calling them lazy? Good work there, champ.
How about this: if you see a sketch that you really like (as long as the artist has no issue with you doing so), finish it. Then, shut the hell up and just feel good for contributing.
Yes, thank you for doing that.
I see. So I’m coloring then I guess.
… I don’t think I have anything else to say.
Also, an artist might be good at sketching,
another artist could be good at colouring,
if the first artist didn’t upload, then the second artist couldn’t do their part.
*Alloy Rabbit makes only sketches, then other people colour them, for example.
“Some
artisthuman behaviours are such a total mystery”ftfy
Artists are people and people are fucking weird and of all sorts.
The behaviour I hate the most among artists, is when they draw art but never show anyone. Worse, when they draw things in streams but never upload the art for anyone to see afterwards. I consider it truly diabolical. Perhaps it’s not their intention to torture the people viewing, but that’s what is is. When an artist I watch stream makes it apparent they don’t upload what they draw in a stream, I stop going to the streams. Why would I deliberately torture myself by watching pictures be drawn that we will never get to appreciate?
I would love to see everything an artist has done, even rough black and white sketches can have an appeal of their own. And something is better than nothing.
I have this one story about an artist who will remain unnamed who exhibited strange behaviour.
One artist I know removed all of his old work(some of which was more liked than some of the new stuff) and was somehow surprised to see negative backlash by their fans. People tried to re-upload the work arguing that they wanted such work to be appreciated, but the artist did not see it that way and the work was removed yet again. They continued to upload new work, but eventually abandoned their fandom. It was an example of self-inflicted artistic suicide.
Now, some may argue that the artists can do whatever they want with their own work, but the viewers are entirely justified in being upset that something they love is destroyed, especially when the reason/s the artist gives make no sense. Why do some artists hate that they are loved? Some artist behaviours are such a total mystery to me…
Well, I personally draw many sketches that I never intend to finish. Sometimes the reason is just to make a quick little joke, or to practice a particular part of anatomy, or to get a simple idea out really quickly. I don’t think you have to intend to finish something if you post a sketch of it.
Khuzang here may have just wanted to have a little fun drawing some little doodles of Trixie, and then decided to share them with us rather than hiding them away. He liked the drawings enough to post them, but may have had other things that he wanted to work on instead. Like I said before, sometimes you just don’t want to commit all the time to finishing something, but still want to share it anyway.
I can definitely produce sketches much much faster than I can create completely polished artwork, and sometimes you have just too many ideas that you want to draw. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using sketches to do that. Sketches are art just by themselves, I love looking at them.
:D I’m not saying “Don’t sketch” “Burn the sketches” “Destroy em” etc., I just want to motivate people to finish their unfinished work. Like I said, it took too long for ‘let’s not point fingers’ to finish this image. That’s why I wanted to encourage artists.
It’s not that I hate sketches, I love em’.
But sometimes it’s really bothering me, this sketch was drawn nearly 2 year ago. I’m sorry If I’m being rude, but that’s way too long for me. I love sketches, but I hate waiting - and I really, I mean REALLY wanted to see this fully colored.
As an artist who sketches all the times I must disagree. Sketches are great, and an incredibly important part of drawing.
Sometimes you want to express an idea super quickly and show it to people without having to spend hours of work on it. Some ideas don’t need hours of work to be appreciated. If you limit people to only posting complete works then you take away the quick spontaneous fun ideas that people want to really quickly create and show, without committing to a huge amount of work.
I don’t think I’d enjoy drawing as much as I do if I only ever created and posted fully finished, polished pieces.
